Just want to thank everyone for a wonderful weekend. Thanks to the boys of “team Dean” a.k.a. my campmates, Scott, Dean, Matt and Kasier, between all of us we managed to have all bases covered, good coffee, good campfires, good…you get the idea.
I really enjoyed meeting so many new riders and seeing some familiar faces. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Dean you are the man, thanks as always for playing the mayor of STR and pulling us all together for a great outing. Scotty what can I say, you’ve out done yourself once again with your sherpa skills. Thanks to Anne and Allison for inspiring me to feel like I’m as young as they are …and to everyone for your patience and general good attitude about taking some “breaks’ so the back of the pack can catch up a big thanks to a few of you that rode sweeper including Andy and Keith…Keith I’m sorry you hurt your ribs but if it wasn’t for your injury to slow you down I wouldn’t have had the bonus of you riding behind me and planting that little voice in my head forever more “Lynn, speed is your friend!”. I think it really helped make that final decent down the mountain one of my favorites thus far…
Lynn

Nope, but the Rangers at Hurkey told me to talk to the folks at Bud's Bikes in town..they have added some new trails in that area.

Part 3: Sunday:

Ughhhhhhh. Got about 1-2hours sleep due to pain every time I moved in my sleep. I’ll apologize now to anyone I was a bit touchy with on Sunday – the Bowen doesn’t perform well with lack of sleep! I’d already decided I wasn’t going to ride today but after one of Ann’s egg sandwiches and a can of RockStar Dean asked me if I was riding and I was like ‘Yeah why not!’ Cue much laughter.
We all got ticketed by the Easter Ranger Nazis – you just know they were looking out of the window and saw an extra $30 when the STR convoy passed by. Enjoy those big $$ guys! I decided to play sweeper and avoid any jarring drop offs but I could feel every little jolt. Good to hear that Lynne will remember the ‘Speed is your friend’ speech – never a truer word was spoken!
Ernie Maxwell trail was sweet and the mile long super steep section that followed wasn’t so bad. I had to consciously stop myself from breathing in too much air – hurt too much, someone said I should breathe like a woman in labor!
Andy and I rode sweep from here to the drop into Hurkey Creek. We’d catch up to the back then wait 5minutes chatting then head off again – one time we waited, set off only to find the group right round the corner! Doh! Great trail though – kind of like a more flowy version of Upper Holy Jim. As we got lower down there were some great boulders and log rolls to play on. I didn’t try any of them this time.

What do you know!...we ended up back on the 24hr course at the end and although my rear brakes were shot and back tyre was bald my feeling for the course made the pain fade away. A great way to end a weekends riding.

It wasn’t quite over for us there – as we had to get lunch….Simple enough you might think but it turned into a 100mph Cannonball Run race down past Ramona and back in search of a mystical restaurant. 2 V8 SUV’s howling down the wrong side of the road (I felt quite at home on the left!) chased by screaming 4 pot made for a fine exit to being in Idyllwild. Fast cars and biking – love it!

Special thanks to Ann, Alison and Lynne for keeping me fed and fuelled for the weekend – the burgers, sandwiches and snacks were awesome Dean and Scott – for showing us the trails and just everyone else for being there and being themselves. We need to do this more often. Vegas is coming!

If anyone wants any of the pics full size then PM me. Allison/Andy – I have some big video files – why don’t we upload to Andy’s ftp and swap files there? Maybe we can Youtube the bizarre video - 'Justin incident'

Master chef Annie hits me up with some flaky bakey and an egg sarnie....hey I like that sweatshirt .......

Getting ready to get another beating on Ernie Maxwell

Only 1100ft of climbing today but over 3000ft of descent - something seems so wrong about that to me!

Yeah but if you check out the pic of me on the Ernie trail I'm not even looking where I'm going
The view was pretty amazing though - easy to get distracted

Ernie Maxwell trail is very nice with a mix of a little technical stuff. The last huck off of the 24 hour course looks so steep. Was It really that steep? I was having so much fun hucking and rollin off of things that I didnt even bother to look b4 I huck it. LOL. Thanks for a great time. We definitely have to do it again. Thanks again.

-Tin

By the way, I never seen so many pictures from any trip. Very Nice.

Everyone else's ride reports were so good I can't add much about what happened. Thanks to all for such a great road trip. The only bad part was not having enough room around the campfires. Next time we get a big group site. Thanks for all the pics, here's a couple of mine.
