Default RR - Just Outstanding

I know that many of you have ridden "Just Outstanding" in one form or another. A group of five of us rode it on Sunday, March 25. We had a few snow patches at the very start but it was gone after the first mile. We have a variation of this ride that we do that is almost all singletrack. No fire road at the end. My bike computer said 17.8 miles and 1495 feet of climbing. We started at 7000' and ended at 2500'. That adds up to 6000' of decent. The dirt was dust free and the traction was like velcro. It is in awsome shape right now. Here are some pics and vids from the ride.

Looks great jeff. For those that are geographically inept, where is the trail? How far from OC?

Jeff does that include that knar moto section that I bailed out on last time? I do remember that manzanita tunnel.

Yep! You went with me down to the lake.

Group shot is where we bailed out. What I remember the most about that trip was the heat!

All I know is if I go again, I'm quitting and going to the lake.

Wait, I don't quit. Damn.

Well, at least I'm stronger than I was then. I could probably hack it. But, that was a hard trail, man. I thought it was so hard that instead of "Just Outstanding" it should be renamed "Just Go F*ck Yourself."

That heat was brutal once you got down the mountain. It looked like we really felt sorry for you guys stuck up there for an extra 3 hours.

Who's that sleeping in the shade?

Nice pics and vids Jeff. Do you happen to know how much snow is at Aspen Glen CG or if the trails near there are ridable? I was thinking of maybe doing a campout this weekend. Maybe spending a day at Aspen Glenn and the rest down in Kernville. Any body else up for it?

Never heard of Aspen Glen. Did you mean Quaking Aspen? I would guess there's still too much snow there, but maybe not?

Dean - Yes, part of that stuff was on the section that you skipped. Some of it is on a new section that we have added so that we don't have to ride down the road.

Jose - you would love the new section. It is a little tougher than the part we did last year.

Franky - Yes you skipped all the rock gardens. As soon as I said "20 minute climb" you were out of there.

Gurp13 - I'm sure you could handle it now. I think you newbie status at the time really scewed your opinion of that trail. That and the heat and the sandy dry conditions. We have done a lot of work on the trail so more of it is ridable. If you could do that "push a Kona" nonsence you could do this. Let me know when you are ready for round #2.

Chaos - If you ask the front desk at the Forest Service they say they are shooting for Mamorial day for opening the road. Word on the street from some people I know say perhaps Mid-May. Only time will tell.

Scott - Come on up. The conditions are perfect. They won't stay this good for long. It is actually snowing right now at the lake but that will all be gone by the weekend. I don't know where the aspen glen campground is. Is it in my area?

Jeff-JimN was right. It is Quaking Aspen I was thinking about. It is up near the trails that go through the Sequoia groves. I think it's the Camp Nelson trail. I rode that last time I came up there.

For the guys who have never done these trails, you don't know what your missing. Some of the best riding SoCal has to offer. I won't be able to make it for 4 weeks as I'm all booked out till then, but if anybody wants to head up then, I'm game.

I really didn't think it was that hot that day, and I liked the extra credit we did. It was a little over the top for a few of the guys though. I wasn't aware of the new section either, but if Jeff has got it in shpe, count me in!

Jeff, great photo and video selection. Hope everyone who went to Arizona noticed the loud yellow shirt I wore there. I was one of the geeky fully padded riders in the photos/video in the yellow jersey. This combo. of trails makes me as giddy as a school girl everytime we do 'em.

Aw, don't mind me. That trail was good and knowing me, I'd do it again and have a much better time. I'm totally down for going back. You driving, Mike? Taking the new ride?

Jeff, you're right. I thought I was in decent condition but I'm much stronger these days. Which is so funny to me because I know I am sooo not the fastest or strongest. That's what I get for riding with so many of the people around here! A serious case of inferiority!!! (That PushAKona was NUTS! I'd do Bell Ridge again anytime, but I'll skip W. Horsethief if it's all the same to everyone else. Sheesh!)

Can't wait to see Kernville again!!!
