Default RR: North Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

Took Adam's sugestion and tried some of the new singletrack dirt in LCWP. Road Ride from the house, out Laguna Canyon to the new Nix Center.

From the parking lot at Nix Center, climbed Stagecoach Trail. It has a perfect grade for my Niner running 32x18. Two of the uphill switchbacks got me off the bike because I did not carry enough speed into the corner. Now that I know what is around the bushes I will make them...excellent singlespeed workout. Dropped back of Stagecoach and took Camarillo Fireroad up to Serrano Ridge. Camarillo goes through a nice green section with some large oaks before climbing quickly to the ridge...not SS friendly. Then, Serrano Ridge Fireroad under the toll road into Laurel Canyon, up to Bommer Ridge/Boat Canyon, to Zuna Peak and back to the house.

16.8 miles 1956ft elevation gain. Half of ride on pavement.

A couple of pics from todays ride.

I rode towards Nix after riding T&A today. I wasn't sure about my options to get back up top and changed my mind halfway there, climbing Willow instead.
I am going to check out the new area next time. Great pics and great work Adam!
Nice day on the trails.

My friend and I rode into the new area on Sat, from Bommer, we went under the 73 toll road and got about 200 yards in and ran into a volunteer bike patrol and another on foot. They told us it's legal to ride, but you must sign in at the Nix center or at the Bommer enterance. He gave us a card with the link to some info. I haven't checked it out, but here it is. www.irvineranchlandreserve.org

I did sign in at the Nix Center. Many more hikers signed in than MTBers. Saw three groups of hikers and no MTBers in the new section. My Bike Bell continues to get positive reactions and thank you's from hikers.

Thanks for the pics D - My wife and I did some trail running/hiking over to Nix from our house starting at Woods End yesterday. We didn't check out the new trails since we were short on time but the route you did was what the docent recommended. I still think it's BS that they have hiking only trails but that's something for another post.

I'm going to try and get over there this afternoon for a ride.

On another note, one of the Rangers told me the center was broken into with a computer and projector stolen. Friggin thieves. If they catch them they should make them do trailwork for restitution.
