Hi all - Well, the GF and I are going to Sedona next week for her spring break. We've been once there for mtn biking and had a great time. If anyone's been and can recall some of their favorite trails, I'd love to hear what they are. I can look them up in detail once we're there and can buy local maps.
Likewise, we still haven't hammered down accomodations so if you have any suggestions there, I'm all ears too. And yeah, I know we missed the big spring fling there last week. Too bad the timing was off. Thx |

i hit Sedona back in Sept of last year. great/fun riding. I know Dean and the crew will be all over this post so just throwing out a few names of trails I can recall and think are worth checking out. alot of stuff around bell rock (big park loop, little horse, llama, tempeton, balwin, broken arrow. don't recall what trail get you there bu you have to hit chicken point
I also spent some time on other side of highway. Trails are not as fun/nor tech but was closer to where we stayed. some names i recall are dawa, girdner, cockcomb, deadmans pass. i got to log in some fun miles and get back to wife/son before hall pass expired ![]() I never made it to Schnebley area but hear fun stuff including huckaby. enjoy

First off there are no bad trails in Sedona, some trails do have slickrock and incredible views.
Sedona is broke down to two areas: Sedona and Village of Oak Creek. The first place I usualy take people is Chicken Point/Submarine Rock, second is Budda Beach...both in Oak Creek. Sedona trails are not long, so to put together a ride you will be riding a handfull to a dozen trails. For the most part the trails are well marked and for $5 you can get Cosmic Rays laminated Sedona trail map, that is also in his Fat Tire Guide Book. Start early it can and will get hot. I can not recomend any places to stay I stay with family out there. There is camping in Sedona in Oak Creek Canyon. Scott and Lynn stayed in a reasonably priced place called Sugarloff Lodge in Sedona, Right across the street form Mountain Bike Heaven. Also, Bike and Bean have a couple of condos they rent above their shop. Have fun and stay away from the Prickly Pear. Dean

The Super 8 is not luxiourus, but it serves the purpose if you're just looking for a place to get some shut eye.Rates are some of the best in all of Sedona and riding is literally right outside your door. We covered everything in Cosmic Ray's book and then some. And like Dean said, there are no bad trails in Sedona. Grab the book and plan your outting, then when you get back, plan your next days outtting. I'd plan on going at a slower pace and covering more ground, if you really want to see some great scenery and still have something in the tank for the next day. My favorite trail is the one that pararellels the jeep path the one all those pink jeeps cruise up. I like climbing the road and then hitting the singletrack back. We missed doing this route last week, but I'll get it next time.
Have a good time.

Thanks all. We just booked the Quail Ridge "resort" recommended by the Bike & Bean. It's right across the street and close to a bunch of the local riding. For $120 a night, they come with queen beds and full kitchens, which will save us some bills by not having to eat out for every meal. There's a heated pool and hot tub and the reviews have sounded overwhelmingly positive. I'm psyched. Back to work, for now.
PiS: Fust FYI, I looked into camping. The Cave Springs campground in Oak Creek Canyon (15 mins north of Sedona) is the only one with hot showers and it doesn't open until mid April. $20 / night. But that's good to know about. |
