Default RR: AZ Spring Fling 07 - Sedona

Saturday we all rode Sedona. Our STR group split of the regular Spring Fling and did our own ride lead by Steppie. Steppie took us on some of the best of Sedona hitting Chicken Pointe and Submarine rock.

Here is Calepic cleanly hitting this 5 foot huck!!

He grunted while he was still in the air. Came away from it fairly well. Had us all worried there for a moment.

No, front tire cam down long before the rear. Craig held on tight and kept the front pointed in the right direction and turned what could of been disaster into a small mishap.

The boyz got some skilz.

I got some mad trail leading skills don't I. How many people do you know that can lead a ride from the back of the pack.

Mikes roll off Submarine Rock was way steeper than it looks.

Isn't that how you're supposed to land a drop?

Yo - Could one of you that was on this trip provide a summary of the trails you hit and accomodation info? My girl and I are thinking about going next week as a last minute spring break idea (she can handle the technical trails).

We'll probably camp out somewhere. Where did ya'll stay? Did it get cold at night or were the temps generally good day and night? Recommend a campsite? Or cheap digs?

if you go to the Spring Fling's yahoo group, in the files section there is a doc with all accommodation info, and trail maps.

For Sedona Steppie agreed to skip the mtbr festivities and be our guide for the day. He delivered the classic Sedona experience. It was hot this day. Early on some in the group were grumbling about wanting more mileage but as the day wore on and heat radiated off the red rock any thought of additional mileage went out the window. We left the parking area to make our way to the Bike and Bean. To sidestep the road construction on 89 we went through a field of goat heads. Initially I wasn't worried since I run Stans but I forgot I had a tube in my rear tire since I ripped the tire bead the day before. While changing tubes I set my only new tube down on the ground only to set it on a f'ing goat head and put a hole in it. I hobbled to Bike and Bean bought new tubes and joined the rest of the crowd in the tube changing antics. Nearly an hour later we were finally hitting dirt.

Sampling the red dirt and scenery:

Mike did a long, steep roll off the top of submarine rock in this video. As always, much steeper than it looks. Especially the very bottom.

We hit the mtbr pizza and beer party hosted by the Bike and Bean post ride. Another great riding day in the books.

You're not kidding, that looked nothing like it did in real life. I had a lump in my throat as he hit that second section and looked like he was trying to scrub some speed, but just kept going faster. Way steeper in real life.
