Good for you Gene. Now take off that 32:22 and put on a gear someone your age should be riding on. Maybe 32:20---at the easiest!!!

After the raffle I went and did a quick loop around Aliso on my newly converted SS. It's a lot of work! The gearing seemed too easy on the Wood Canyon(32X22), but was nice up Chola. I was a little tired but at least I got to try it out. See you on the trails! Gene

Thanks Andy, I guess it's a matter of getting used to. I'll have to build up stength. I went for a ride at Whiting today and went up Mustard on my Tomac F/S in the 32:20. It was some work but I made it up to the "Mark's Bench" where I met Dan White(White Bros). We talk and went our way(very nice guy). He headed to the Luge and I went down Cactus/Sage then up Dreaded(granny gear for sure) and Cactus/Sage again then back to the parking lot, hitting both single tracks on the way out. Whiting is in great shape. Not too dry/loose. Good ride, aside from Dan, no one there but me and my mp3. Gene

This was 5-6 years ago when he was still involved with White Brothers (before they moved to Colorado). Dan's a great guy & a lot of fun to ride with. Hang in there with the gearing.. it gets easier. I'm running a 34 X 22 on my 29er.. which seems to work OK with my old legs....

I'm not trying to sound all macho on you or anything but if you can make the climbs on your first try, you need to get into a harder gear. Mustard is tough and I won't even bring up Cholla or any of the Aliso trails. When I heal up we'll have to hit the trails together.

Ya Dan said he moved away and was gone for sometime. He sold his company and is now retired. He's moved back here and has a home here in OC and also one in Scottsdale. He mentioned that Mark Reynolds was his son's roommate and worked for his company. He also talked about his and his son's racing days. It was an enjoyable exchange.(One for the books)

Hey Andy, I'll take you up on that ride when you heal. In the mean time, I'll try that 32:20. Then afterwards, I'll buy you a beer or few since you did lug the BOB up and handed out the beers. And thanks guys for the encouragement. Gene

Ummm, not sandbagging, little gear. I was thinking of switching up to a 21, cause I'm still a bit of a sissy wimp when it comes to SSing

Default Best Pic Ever!

Sounds like a great event. Wish I could have joined in. Wish Tony the best for full recovery. thanks for posting pics.

btw- this pic is sweeeeeet (grins suggests no way that is the first beer) and should make it into STR New Banner. Am sure Steppie would take one for the team and allow his melon to be replaced with this shot.

Wow, what happened to the front half of my body?? That very well could have been my first Guinness, but definately not my first beverage. You are right. It was a lot of fun hanging with everyone.

I'll have to start thinking of another ride. It has been quite a while since a pirate ride!

We definitely need more rides like this... everyone's burn out on all the tough training ride done for the VQ... we've got to get back to a little of that "fun" mentality... instead of hammering all the time.

OMR

PS: I'm still looking for a ping pong table... anyone have one that we can use for the OC Mountain Bike Ping Pong 2007 series?

I'm not buying it at all. I know you better than that. You're so sandbagging!
Sandbagger! Sandbagger! Sandbagger!
