Default RR: El Prieto - Turnbull Mar 10th

What a beautiful day for a ride, temps were in the 70's when we showed up at JPL. As Ann, Keith, and I were gearing up, Jeff was rolling up and down the street. He decided to ride a wheelie as he was passing by us and continued to roll right over onto his back. Jeff's excuse was that he had new brake pads on...yeah right, we believe ya thanks for the laugh.

As we started up the road from JPL, we met up with my friend Dino who was waiting for us at the parking lot. Once onto the Brown Mtn fireroad I never saw Keith again, that guy is one fast mofo up fire roads. Then this dude passes my sorry a$$

I think I'm gonna pick up a kick stand this week, if it works for him, it's gotta work for me As we climbed up Brown Mtn, Jeff decides to wheelie it up.

No kidding, he was riding for at least minute, I stopped filming him halfway through. We took a break at the top before heading down towards El Prieto.
It was really nice just sitting around bs'ing and not having to worry about a cut off time. Coming down, Keith showed off his iron head.

Once we dropped into El Prieto, the fun began. I think everyone had a smile on their face blasting down the singletrack.

Lucky for us, there was hardly anybody on the trail, only until the end did we see hikers. I just love the beauty of the San Gabriel Mountains. We ended the ride with some mexican food at Margarita Joe's in Pasadena. Keith, Ann, and Jeff must have been drunk cause all I heard was, "Hey, let's hit Turnbull on the way home" What?! I was already in sleep and rest mode. I did not want to climb any hills at this point, it was getting hot outside.

Low and behold, I'm pedaling up the B's at Turnbull and quite surprised that I'm doing so well. I guess all that training paid off. Looks like they've been building new stunts along the trail cause we started hitting them
We only did Rattlesnake and the singletrack down to Friends.

I gotta say, Keith, you are getting fast going downhill. Jeff was super smooth all day and it was a pleasure riding with you all. Dino, nice new ride. Oh yeah, as we ended the Friends singletrack, I saw a pretty big snake. Jeff went Steve Irwin on it and picked it up trying to get him to move on off the trail

I think the final tally was something like 20miles with a little over 3000 ft of elevation.

You left Mt. Wilson area to ride Turbull? I got to get you a map of Mt. Wilson. Tom Harrison Maps. $8.95 and well worth it. El Prieto is just a teaser compared to some of the other singletrack on that mountain.

No problem I am up there a couple times a month. Epic Riders are there every weekend, good people to ride with.

This was a sweet days riding. I treated all the climbs as training sessions and stuck it well into LT on every one, oh the pain!
Brown Mountain was a middle ring blur. Prieto descent was great fun, loads of drop offs and rock gardens.
I have to say after the first ride and the Margarita lunch I was wasted! (In the British sense of the word) Full speed up Turnbull out of the saddle whilst still drunk was pretty funny but there must have been some serious fuel in the booze because I felt unstoppable but a bit wobbly
The 'big jump' looked pretty intimidating but the still slightly buckled Jeff was giving it a good look over. I recon another few of those Margaritas and we'd all have done it no problems
The last bit of Turnbull was a fast chase trying to stay with super smooth BMX-Bandit Jeff and Andy on the big 'Mad

Thanks to 'ma brutha' Deano for his humour, Jeff for doing his 'Steve Irwin' and Wheelie fest, Anne for chugging the Margaritas with me and Andy for driving....see below....Great times peeps

Best moment of the day: Being called Lance (Thanks Jeff, altho you may have been drunk still )

Slow-mo moment of the day:
Me: 'Andy you're driving through a red light at 50mph with a Merc turning infront of us.......'
Andy: 'Sh**********t Arghhhhhhhhh!!!'

Ha ha.. Thanks for letting everyone know I am the guy who eats $#!t before the ride....

Andy, nice Dave Mustaine, but isn't that showing your age a little. Like the vid.

Can't wait to get out and ride again.

And Keith... I had one beer! I would have loved to have been drunk, it could have been a better example of why I was dying at Turnbull.

Hey, someone's gotta educate the youngen's about MegaDeath. I need to ride with older people, I'm tired of being the oldest guy there. I was really hoping Dino was older than me, dang, got beat by 3 months.
