RR: Blackstar to Motorway Night Ride

[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]Keith2 took off like a rocket on the way up to Beeks. Couldn’t quite stay with him on the very last section but we had to be up there in well under an hour - Legs were screaming for mercy! Nice going for a diabetic and a hypoglycemic pair of Keith’s! [/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]The sky was an incredible hue tonight, cloud low on the horizon tinged orange with the moon gradually rising through the broken cloud. Nino turned back at Beeks.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]Jeff made the brave decision to ride with us despite still being tired from the CC.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[SIZE=3][FONT=Tahoma]Made it up [/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Peasants[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma] [/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Peak[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma] in the middle ring for the 1st time – man that hurt! A couple on a quad bike came past at speed no doubt off for some romantic leaison above the Corona city lights.[/FONT][/SIZE]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]New spare light became invaluable as I can now do 5.5hr night rides without having to switch off.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]Loads of wildlife out tonight – whilst waiting on MD for the guys something with 2 glowing eyes appeared behind me – cue hair on my neck to stand on end. Shhhhhhhhhhhh****t !!! Luckily whatever it was went back into the bushes after staring me down for 10seconds.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]Two of the weirdest security guards you ever met were waiting in their truck at the top of Motorway. I spotted they had a flat and they got out to investigate – Jeff looked terrified when he spotted the second guy and actually had a nightmare about this guy last night – that’s hilarious Jeff although I don’t think he was staring at you. OK well he might have been…or not. [/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]Keith2 showed us a new alternative section on Motorway – thereafter I decided to get the thrill I didn’t get at the CC (being stuck behind someone who wouldn’t let me past) and went pretty berzerk. Crashed 3 times and nearly went off the edge at one point. Most spectacular was the front tyre washing out to the point where I went into the bushes, up the bank got launched off the bike and landed back on the seat squashing the boys – brought tears to my eyes! Perhaps it was just as well that guy was wouldn’t let me past on the CC as the heavily worn FastTrak Pro doesn’t like the loose stuff. Clipped a large rock towards the end and got a flat only to find that the tube I put in to replace it was a dud. Pah! [/SIZE][/FONT]
[SIZE=3][FONT=Tahoma]I suggested we sucked it up and rode the rest of the CC route….it went pretty quiet. Although I did manage to talk the team into doing it a later date – bring it on. Also the VQ route from Maple onwards at night if anyone wants to sign up for that as well [/FONT][FONT=Wingdings][FONT=Wingdings]J[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Tahoma] [/FONT][/SIZE]
[FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=3]The road section back was actually good fun. Flat out in top gear for over 5miles with total lactic acid burn all the way back – longest night ride yet, thanks for riding guys.[/SIZE][/FONT]

K2 Always amazes me with the beautiful way in which he rides his single speed--able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, faster than a speeding bullet, yadda yadda yadda.

Nice RR, sounds like fun, I'll have to try it sometime (when I don't have to be up at 3:30, I'm wussy)

Keith2 (President of SHARE) is way fun to ride with... Although I'd just watch it when he says he knows a fun little ride to do... the last one I did with him was Smash Face... we kept riding and I kept asking where in the hell was the trail.???.. it was just open spaces in the brush. We ended up wading 1/4 mile down a rocky stream with poison oak on the banks... yeah, a fun little ride!

When I suggested doing the counting coup as a night ride he countered that with lets do Maple to the peak down HJ, up Horsethief and down Trabuco

Did Keith2 stand up at all riding his SS across the Main Divide? It's pretty demoralizing watching him SIT turning 11rpm up those nasty climbs while I stand and throw the bike around trying to get up the same hills...

No, I'll tell you what's demoralizing... is watching Keith2 go down something steep like Smash Face on his rigid bike ... laughing all the way down... while everyone else has full squish!
