Nice report Jeff...bonking is scary.

I think what happens to me, on the SART, is that it is just so much fun to go fast that I forget how much energy I put out.

When I ride the SART alone I leave my truck down at the bridge (bottom of Seven Oaks Road/Middle Control) and climb the fireroad first.

Yeah, I knew I was going to regret missing this ride. But I also knew if I didn't give this cold a chance to get out of my chest that I'd prolong it like last time, so I sat at home watching TV playing on the PC and being a PITA to everyone.
Yep, Jeff, that is an official BONK. Done it a few times myself and hope to never do it again. The trick after a bonk is to eat as much as you can and when you are able to get back on the bike, go as slow as you possibly can and reduce your exerction level down as far as you can. Better slow and steady then stopped.

The last time I bonked was on SART like 2 years ago. I was close to the car, but bonked so bad I started throwing up, couldn't make it more than 5-10 mins without puking... so the drive home by myself took hours having to pull over every 5 minutes to throw up.... thought I was going to pass out because I couldn't eat anything. scary.

Default thanks to you

Dean, thanks for picking us up. That's service. Nothing like a car waiting and cold beer to finish off the ride.

From now on, if the ride starts at 7:00, we should tell Jose 6:30.

Wrong, just enforce the 10-15 minute rule. He is strong and will catch up with you anyways.

you're a trooper jeff! the trail is very misleading as you don't really see a huge climb anywhere except the end. factor in the roller coaster type of terrain and the elevation, mileage, exposure levels and you've got a tough ride. I'm sure the next time you ride there you'll have no problem with it. I almost bonked my first time as well. Just remember to bring enough food and water for the trip.

Sorry to hear you bonked Jeff but look at it this way - even in your survival mode I'm sure you're still faster than most of us!

Justin - Love the 'Big Mac Burger' top. Looks like you being a fiend for a bit of Carls Junior extends beyond the food!

Pls note that 'top' is a generic European term for any article of clothing worn on your top half - OK Sarah! :-P
I am making an "empirical" point here - in America, only gay guys and metrasexuals use the term "top" for "shirt." Perhaps I am wrong - in which case, you're not gay after all!

ps - Jeff, I'm glad you're okay. I thought you had crashed and broken something ...

Yes, it was an Extraordinary Trail! Im so glad to ride it with you guys!! I forgot to charge my camera, Ill have some pics up tonite...

I have to say that Sipping on the old Jack Daniels going up was good... but Sipping the old Jack Daniels going down! now that was great!!

The little Snow patches were amazing, the roots all reaching out to toss you off the mountain were fun, luckily there was always a tree to bail to...
I pulled 2 George of the Jungles!

One Word = EPIC
