Scairs & Westridge Drop are two completely different descents.

0gravity is correctly describing Westridge Drop.

Scairs is a huge set of concrete stairs that connects the paved portion of Sullivan Ridge to the bottom of Rustic Canyon. Extremely dangerous.

thanks, I remember you telling me about that once. funny, one of my best friends in high school lived right there on brooktree, but I never thought to do that route. I usually park at amalfi and sunset, or amalfi and capri.... depending whether I take jdrop back or not.

Mat,

I recommend parking at Upper Mesa & Amalfi. The short spin up Amalfi makes for a nice warm-up at the beginning of the ride. And at the end of the ride, you don't have to ride on Sunset or do any significant climbing.

At the end of the ride, use the west exit from Will Rogers Park and head down the paved road to Sunset. Cross Sunset at the crosswalk and go right onto the sidewalk. Follow the sidewalk to the first cross street, go left and immediately left again into what looks like a driveway (actually a legal easement). Follow this easement a short distance and cross over a gated wooden bridge, which leaves you on Latimer Road. Follow Latimer Road, passing by Rustic Canyon Park on the right. Latimer Road will tee into Mesa/Upper Mesa Road. Go left onto Upper Mesa and you'll be back at your car in a couple minutes.
wow...sounds cool. i may try this sunday by myself. are you saying that this is a good thing to do when ending from will rogers? i have never taken will rogers all teh way down....

so i can park where suggested, head up to sullivan ridge? etc....?

Yeah, it's a good way to go. Brooktree to Latimer would work, but the route I'm describing is a little different. After crossing Sunset, you go right and cruise down the sidewalk for about 50 yards, turn left at Rustic Creek Lane, and then immediately left again down the easement that looks like a driveway (the entrance is literally right on the corner of Sunset & Rustic Creek Lane). Hopefully that makes sense.

Yeah, park at Upper Mesa & Amalfi. Start riding up Amalfi toward Sunset Blvd. Cross Sunset and continue on Amalfi to Capri. Turn left on Capri and left again to head up Sullivan Ridge.

You know the route: Sulli-Mul-Farmer's/Bent Arrow-Mul-FR30 to Hub to Backbone all the way to Will Rogers.

When you reach the parking lot at Will Rogers Park, stay to the right toward the west exit. You'll cruise downhill to Sunset Blvd. Cross Sunset at the crosswalk and go right onto the sidewalk. Follow the sidewalk to the first cross street, go left and immediately left again into what looks like a driveway (actually a legal easement). My way of ending Rogers is to turn left when arriving at the polo field. There's a sign that says ROAD CLOSED but it refers to vehicles. When it dumps you out on Sunset go right ~50 feet to get a clear view of traffic in both directions then cross Sunset.

After that you're behind a steel barrier all the way to Amalfi (safer than the Rustic option). I call it the Sunset Singletrack!

Not sure I understand how this is "safer than the Rustic option". I rarely encounter any traffic on Latimer, and I think it's a pleasant little cruise by Rustic Canyon Park. One of the reasons I prefer the Upper Mesa & Amalfi starting point is that you do almost no climbing at the end of the ride. I really don't like riding back up Amalfi at the end of the ride. However, I guess you could park at Sunset & Amalfi and get that bit over with at the beginning of the ride.

yeah, that's why I park at Sunset & Amalfi, to spin up amalfi as a warmup, and no grind at the end of the ride.

I think Doug's just saying you can ride on sunset, behind the barrier, and be "safe". Less pavement that way also.

I am going to try your route soon. I don't like the sunset way all that much.

I biked the Rustic way last week, plenty of construction, and a**** with their pickup truck doors swinging open.
