17 people showed up today to ride, eat and do some brushwork. Goal was to have some fun and open up the view on Zion Summit...both a success. The faster group headed out up to the summit, I figured that if I took my normal slow pace, by the time I got to the summit the work should be done...near success.
If you look close, in the picture of the mountain top you can see one of the buildings up at Mt. Wilson Observatory. I had been by Camp Sturtevant a few times and have never stopped to check it out, or introduce myself the the folks that run the resort. They are very nice and it really is a pretty cool place...reminds me of the places I used to stay at as a kid. Scott asking around...finally found someone that he could beat at Tether ball. If you look at the second picture...think back to Mike riding the Shotgun Trail Log in Mammoth...well he is going at it again...except this time with loopers. Again THX Brain for setting this up. BIG thanks to CORBA (Hans) for all the good stuff you do.. The food and CORBA bike bell also help. Dean

Just got back from the Superbowl party. I'll post up what little pics I did take. Unlike some others I was to busy doing trail work. (plus my stupid battery ran low again).
Oh yeah, a special thanks to Rex Grossman as he made me two large today.

Once again Dean beats me to the ride report. What a perfect day: clear skys, warm temps (finally), a great trail, good people, good free food, and I still got home to see one of the best kick offs in Super Bowl history. For shame to those that didn't come out because they wanted to watch...what is that sport called? football?
![]() The Chantry area has a special place in my heart. It so awesome to be a part of helping to keep it such a wonderful place. I can't thank everyone who came out to any one of the 7 trail maintenance events on the Mt. Zion Trail. It is amazing how much better the trail looks! For those that have not been out to the area I highly recommend the trip. A huge THANK YOU to the folks at the Pack Station and Steve (President of the Cabin Owners Association) for cooking the food for us. It was super nice to finish up a great ride and have tacos waiting for us! Saturday, February 17th, CORBA will be working on the Ken Burton Trail (or Tim Burton Trail to some). Access to this trail is a little less technical than Mt. Zion and should be a great event. I will post a Ride Event for this so people can sign up.

Head Over Heels, OUCH!!!

Sorry we didn't make it up there yesterday to join all of you, but it looks like everyone had a good time on the Zion loop. Camp Sturtevant was the first place I ever went backpacking when I was 4 or 5 years old w/ my family. Many good memories up there, but I don't recall passing too many mtn bikers on the trail.

Besides that he kicked your ass with his back to the game. You need to work on your skills.

Hey Brian,
Thank you very much for all your hard work on this. After so many years of reading 'Is Chantry open yet?' its great that is finally is. Having Zion cleared is the cherry on top! |
