Default RR-SART in the Snow

Lynn and I went to SART on Sunday. It was cold enough that our hoses kept freezing. The snow was perfect for riding. About 1-2" and barely sticking to our tires. We were going to park at Glass rd but the road was too icy. Parked at Southfork and rode west from there.

We had to detour around the first river xing.

The only tracks we saw were from critters. Climbing was a little tougher but not too bad. When the sun was out it was at least 15 degrees warmer. There were a few sections with trees down. We cleared what we could, but a couple big ones still remain. We didn't stop much because of the cold. After passing Glass rd we continued on to the 1st stream xing where we turned around. We heated up a bit on the climb going the other way. My pedals kept icing over which made clipping in a pain. It was still another great day at SART.

Let the fun begin

Nice Scott, me likes riding in the snow. I still have those platform pedals on my geared bike...I do like platforms for the muck and snow.

Brrrrrrrhh, I've never ridden on snow before but it looks like fun. What's climbing like on snow? Do you have to shift your weight as far back as possible to keep traction?

Platforms would have been the hot ticket. Lynn didn't have any problems.

Climbing in this snow wasn't bad at all. Traction was great, only broke loose a couple times. Only had to shift weight a little bit. It would sap your energy more. Almost like climbing in sand but with more traction.

That looks so cool. SART is a great ride (although some mental exposure in places!) doing it in the snow must have been great - deeply jealous!
I do miss riding in the snow

This one was NOTHING like that day up at Strawberry. Weren't you wearing shorts that day? SART was really beautiful, no freezing rain coming down like it was at Strawberry.
Picture clear skies, virgin snow all you can hear is the crunch of the snow beneath your wheels, pretty good stuff! The pictures make it look a lot colder than it felt when we were riding. Either that or I was so mesmerized by the scenery I didn't notice.
