Thanks for that link. What a shitty deal down there. 2010 for some tame trails? Gee thanks.

Do you know if there was any notice? I thought they were closing flightline because they were building some commercial buildings, not because someone wants to keep the land untouched.

What good is hundreds of acres of land if nobody can use it? Atleast open it up to hikers/mountainbikers/horses so that the land has some use other than just empty space. Otherwise why bother having it, right?

i agree with ya. i was under that same impression that it was going to be used for commercial buildings. when they interviewed that Sphincterberg guy he was talking about wanting to keep it preserved and untouched....did you read any of the threads on mtbr about it?

i'm just as confused as you are though after seeing that news piece.

I hope some of you guys/gals caught on to what they were saying about getting involved at the beginning level. When the notices go up we have to get involved then. I've been to a few of these planning reviews that were being held and we are usually represented fairly well, but at other times the enviornmental groups like Sierra Club will be there in numbers and they don't have a single nice thing to say about us, or for that matter any other trail users. We have to be involved at this level, the beginning.

They have claimed both liability and environmental issues. At this point, I think that it is a anti-mountain bike thing. Apparently, MTBer's are the new skateboarders in Carlsbad.

But unlike skaters we will vote and some of us have some money and time we are willing to donate to a cause such as this.

Agreed, but our numbers are still small and most other trail users (who also vote and contribute) dislike us. The nice thing is that more and more MTBer's are getting involved.
