Default Mt Wilson

Can someone fill me in Mt. Wilson? I've heard about it. Don't know where it's at. I've heard roadies and mt bikers talk about it. So what's the skinny or the Phatty? Is it a long ride, steep, fire road? paved? etc.

It's fire road all the way up, then singletrack all the way down...all 11 miles or so down. Switchbacks, rocky sections, flowy sections. That place can take the rain better than any other place I've ridden. But, just like any other place, if you don't know how to modulate your brakes, then the trail will get trashed.

Hey Phat,
We ride this area on a regular basis. There are numerous options to ride down from Mt Wilson, and then again there are options to ride up it. The most common before the mountain fell down on it was the Toll Rd. This was quite a workout with well over 5K of uphill and some very good downhill. I personally like the Mt Wilson Trail, but Merrills and The Gabrielino are a blast too. I understand some people have cut a path through the slide that happened and I'm going to check it out in a few weeks. I'll be climbing to the top and coming back down Mt. Wilson.

I went and checked it out about a month ago. Could not find a good way around the normal access gate...it is locked. You would have to come in and poach that Easton Canyon Sanctuary Trail and up that wash. There is a trail across the slide...I am thinkin it is a hike-a-bike.

It was a weekday and I had never climbed Lower Merrill so I went over there instead.

Yeah, guys are walking their bikes thru the Easton part and then connecting to the Toll Rd from there. I figured to give that a try. Anybody else got any other info? Others have jumped the fence and then walked the bikes thru the slide area. I'm trying to find the best way thru.

Mike I walked the fence line and did not see any easy ways through. I would just go in through the Sanctuary. In fact there where some kids riding there bike down in the wash when I was looking for a way down to the Wilson toll road.

I recently shuttled Switzer(red box?) at wilson and it was pretty fun(a couple guys did it on hardtails) and theres another longer run which i forgot the name but i would recommend at least a 6 inch travel bike to ride on.

I shuttle Wilson yesterday morning, what a ride. It was raining, hailing, and snowing when we drove back to the top to retrieve the cars.

A great trail with all types of terrain. All of the trails but Sunset handle the rain well.
