Default RR Santiago Oaks 120906

I have to start by saying that I have not ridden here that often, but the more I ride it, the more I like it. Spooky Dave and Kentonn were nice enough to show El Borracho, my friend Troy and myself around on some of the lesser know (at least by me) trails.

There was plenty of this today but it was all good:

We hit Zips, Goat, Bobcat, Hang Ten, Powerline and I'm sure a couple others I forget. I love the type of riding Oaks has to offer. There's some climbing involved but the reward is some fun, technical downhills.

I really didn't take any other pictures until we got up to the play area.

El Borracho showing some style on the table:

Kentonn getting in on the action:

Spooky Dave:

Troy - yet another Turner rider :

Me

Next up was the point drop - I went first:

Next up was Spooky Dave. His first attempt ended badly with a washed out front tire on the landing and some nice road rash on his arm. Being the stallion he is, he decided to give 'er another go.

Dave taking a peek first:

Looking good so far:

Unfortunately the landing was more of the same. He went down hard on his hip, shoulder and side of his head. Luckily he was wearing a full-face. He bounced up quickly with a string of expletives and even more road rash on the same arm. Sorry no crash pics. He cleaned himself up and was good to go.

The landing spot with Dave's DNA in it:

A little bonus shot for you carnage freaks:

It doesn't look too bad once it's all cleaned up. It wasn't quite so pretty with a buch of dirt and pebbles in it.

I have a bonus video of Kentonn going big on the double. If I can figure out how to upload a video link I'll edit it in.
Edit: here's a link:Video of Ken Sant Oaks double - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We hung around the road gap for a while but none of us were feeling it. Maybe next time.

In summary. Great ride, great weather, great group to ride with.

Thanks guys.

C

Nice Craig, your RR of Dave's wreck reminds me why I like to keep my wheels on the ground.

well ya ya ya. Arm is really feeling ok but the hip is starting to turn a nice shade of back and blue. And it feels worse then it looks. I've hit that drop a bunch of times. Guess today was just not my day.

Anyway, other then making dirt clods with my blood it was a solid ride. I didn't roll the spine rock on Hang Ten. Will have to sack up for that the next time.

So, when are we going back?

Yeah, two tries at that jump with the same result, me eating the dirt.
On the first attempt, I totally overshot the landing and my front end was up too high. Looking at the video of the second attempt, I would say the speed was about the right but I still pulled up on the bars. Since that jump doesn't have a lip, I think I just need to roll it and let the jump do the work.

Anyway, it was a great ride and I think everyone enjoyed Goat, Bobcat, Hang Ten and Zips. I have to agree with Craig, the more I ride the Oaks, the more I like it.

Thanks for the RR Craig

That video is classic. Scary to watch in person, downright funny on the computer. Fun ride today. Dave gave a downhill clinic and Kentonn stepped up big time with that gap jump, really impressive stuff. I'll be looking forward to the next ride out there.

Good stuff, guys. Thanks for the vid and photos, Craig. That's a sweet vid of Ken on that double. Def too much pulling on the bars but makes for good footage

Nice ride report and pix craigger! I was thinking of hitting that drop you did the next time we were there, looks like you owned that thing! Spookies carnage is awesome, Ken's attempt at that set of double was sweet, that is a huge gap! Mike looking good in the air on the table, very fun thread to read.

Santiago is best with a guide the first time. The good stuff is easy to miss. I post the next Oaks ride.

The hucks are at the very top so all your climbing will be done by that point. You have to climb / push to get to all the good stuff. Up down up down.
And yes, those other drops are much bigger.

Anytime you want to check it out just let us know. You bring that V10 and I'll bring my big rig too.

i tried to reply to this last night but my power went out so i'll give it a go again..

great pics craig, i hit that table top jump a few times the last time i was out there.. fun stuff.. i didn't think anyone would actually hit that big jump, but damn kenton stepped up big on that one. that video is awesome.

i've never wandered off the trails other then 3 b's and chutes/waterfall, but i think i'll spend the day exploring the trails out there sometime.
