Thumbs up RR: Turnbull Nov 24th

Fun ride at Turnbull today! We even found another play area Riders today were: me, Matt (von-diggity), and Bret (guero).

Right off the bat I dropped my glasses on the first fireroad climb and didn't notice until we got to 7th street. Went back maybe a quarter mile but didnt see it and I'm guessing someone snatched them. 7th street is still pretty loose and Mathew proved this by sliding out on a corner. Of course he was going way fast as usual .

Here he is after the crash. Gotta love the dust cloud!

and the aftermath:

We continued on down and then climbed out of 7th street. Here's matt at the top:

We then headed over to rattlesnake, which is always fun. Nice burms, small jumps, wooden hucks (including a monster one) make for good times. Bret discovered a wooden drop that Matt and I didn't know about and we played on that for a bit. Nothing crazy, just a well built and fun drop. Bret and Matt hit it just fine but I was having second thoughts since I haven't hucked anything in a long time.

Here's matt and Bret hitting it:

(yes, that's matt on the huckler)

I gave it a go. Landed fine but panicked for some reason and had a sliding crash.

Matt tried out an 'alternate' huck right next to the wooden one.

Bret, Matt, and I all hit it a couple more times - no crashes.

We headed down and back up the fireroad. Headed over to friends street, another sweet singletrack. On the way there Matt decides to try a roll:

Then we arrive at friends street. Not many photos here since it's too fun to stop, but here's a few photos of a short techy section.

Really loose at the bottom of that section!

Bret dabs on it

then crashes on that really loose stuff at the bottom

gets up and smiles

Nice RR gouge! Fun times out there today and the weather was perfect, stayed overcast and cool for about 80% of our ride. This is a great loop and wouldn't mind working it into the rotation. Matts crash/washout was awesome to witness, I was about 20 yards behind him when he hit a little table/lump then once landed, you shift your weight and lean into a downhill sweeping right hander....Diggs was flying and his front wheel slid along a tiny little rut/ledge for about 15 feet or so before he laid it down. he didnt even notice the gash on his shin till a few minutes later. Props to Gouge for hitting the ladder after not doing any drops for awhile. He looked good on the approach and in the air, and then looks like he hit too much brake when he started to ride out the landing and it bucked him off the yeti. That little ladder was fun, that huge was is just flat out HUUUUGE and I don't ever forsee myself hitting it. The "friends" s/t was bitchin, very fast, flowy with little berms and small kickers here and there with very few studder bumps. That last soft techy section was a good way to end the ride. The top part is tricky with a steep drop in and a couple decent sized roots to maneuver through along with some rocks, then right after that it is very powdery with some rocks camoflauged (sp?) into the mix (where i dabbed), and last but not least that little 18 inch drop with the immediate right you must make that got the best of me.

Special thanks to Diggs who bought me birthday lunch at the schnitz and to Gouge who bought me a birthday ice cream at the schnitz!

Fun stuff today, fun trails and good times. I had fun even thought I took a dirt nap. I always try to ride a crash out in the hopes that I can recover. It works about 8 times out of 10.

Happy Bday Brett, looks like you guys had a blast today. Anyone take that monster drop? I'll have to go back to Turnbull soon, it's been awhile since I've ridden it in the daytime. I was gonna go down that techy section that's real loose but my buddy went down first and he ended up going over the bars. He was down for awhile so I was pretty hesistant after his crash. Poor guy cracked his rib on that section.

T&A on my 29er s/s could be interesting, it does have an 80mm fork afterall.
