Default RR Montana de Oro Park - Los Osos (SLO)

I had to head out of town this week for work at the last minute but the side benefit was sneaking in a couple great rides.

First up was Montana de Oro outside of San Luis Obispo. This is the 3rd time I've ridden here. Usually it's socked in with fog but this time was bright and sunny with a pretty strong wind up on the ridges. I followed Kentonn's route from geoladders http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=262

Lots of great ocean views

Some switchbacks to check out next time

A good idea for our local trails

A nice view of Moro Bay

This is a fun route. 10 miles and about 2K of climbing. Some of the climbs are pretty stout but not too bad. The views are truly spectacular. The only negative is that the park is heavily used by equestrians so one must control their speed on the descents. When the line of sight is open, it's a blast to fly down the luge-like singletrack launching off the waterbars.

Wow Craig, that was a clear day. When we rode it, we were socked in the fog. But as you go inland, it starts getting hotter. We camped and Montana DeOro 4th of July weekend a few years ago and I can honestly say, it was some of the coldest camping I have ever done. Nice photos.

Very nice, my nephew moved to SLO a month ago I think I need to go visit. It's looking a little dry out there...maybe I will wait for some rain.

Do you ever ride the section that goes along the ocean cliffs?

Looks like you were riding Hazard Canyon to Hazard Peak? I rode there a few months ago when work sent me in that direction. I only had time for a short ride but damn it was one hell of a ride. The trail down from Hazard Peak was totally made for mountain bikes. Great louge turns, fast, and rocky. I can't wait to ride there again.
