Headed north for a ride today. Met up with Sarah and then Tiffany, her cousin. To be honest I'm not even sure which part of backbone we did. Ended up being less then 14 miles I think? We started late because of some brake issues on Tiffany's bike and the time change meant we were running out of daylight.
Backbone, even just the small section we did, is f'ing rad. Fun singletrack the whole way. Got some good vid footage and there might be a movie up in a day or two. It wasn't hot at all since we started later in the day (around 3pm I think?). Tiffany did very well for not having ridden in over a year. Sarah's still getting better. And I'm still on the plateau! But yeah, thanks you two - it was good times.EDIT: Video is uploaded. Download: right click & save as (20.5mb) No technical riding photos - saved that for video. But photos are here and a sampling of those photos: Tiffany and Sarah befor the ride ![]() Me with my new 7" rotor ![]() Group shot ![]() Tiffany eating some of my bloks - I think she's addicted now ![]() yes, we're hardcore ![]() Last edited by LBmtb : 10-30-2006 at 12:16 PM. Thanks for da pics. Backbone is a fun trail.
My favorite section of Backbone, is the section called Wood Canyon, in Point Mugu State Park. I am more than ready for a Guadalasca Run.

Rob, the Backbone is totaly worth the drive looks like you guys were in Latigo Canyon.
Keith, Backbone is in the Santa Monica Mountains. Not all of the Backbone is open to bikes. Runs roughly from Wil Rogers State Park to Pt. Magu State Park...20 something miles long. If they were in Latigo Canyon that is above Malibu.

ha ha. cool vid. i fell right on my quad, really ... so that HURTS. we did corral and latigo ... we didn't have enough daylight left to do kanan. but Backbone is fricking awesome. i'd like to try every inch of it. where can one get a map of all the trailheads? i think we did 10 miles total, though we set out to do 14.
Tiff really kicked butt. I think i can count the number of times she's ridden mountain on my fingers. ![]() |

Google is your friend. I have a bunch of PDF files that I have downloaded from different websites. Can not remember them all. Here is a couple. Also the Rangers have good maps at the enterance to Will Rogers and Pt. Magu. If you don't find what you want e-mail me and I can send you my PDF files. They are to big to post on STR/ http://www.nps.gov/samo/upload/TrailPub_backbone.pdf

Major Kudos to Sarah for her repeated attempts.George of course had to show us how it's done. What fork is she running? That Pike George has looked like it was working really well for that little mini G-out.

That's part of the section I've been telling you about, George! Definitely one of my favorites. There are some challenging sections if you do the whole thing. A great ride is to park at Latigo and do an out and back to one end (top of Mesa Peak Mtwy), refuel, then go out to Kanan and back. It's really great in the spring when there is water and wildflowers in the canyon bottoms. My avatar is from the rocks near Corral Cyn, I think.
