Default Southridge RR: meeting new friends

Today I had a chance to ride with some new friends. Really good to meet Rob(bikebike69), his wife Michelle, and Ryan(FyrFytrRyn). Rob is getting his feet wet, after not DHing for the past couple years, and this was Ryan's first true DH test on the Cortina. Both were riding strong, I was glad to show them some of the lines at Fontana. That place can be really confusing without banners up for a race, lines everywhere. Pretty sandy and loose right now, but not too overgrown. I believe that Rob had a fall, nothing too serious, on a really tricky off camber section. Ryan claims this was his first time DHing, yeah right! Just kidding Ryan, you have a lot of natural talent, plus you're 16 years younger than Rob and I! Wow, that's scary, man I'm old. I think Michelle had a fall as well, should've got a picture of the war wound! Lousy pictures, but you guys say real RR's have pictures, so this is what you get.(click on pictures for bigger) Oh yeah, I almost forgot, there was a Dirttorpedo sighting in the early morning, but he had to make his way to work.

Definitely, there are so many trails, you can almost always go around any of the super tech stuff. I ride my Enduro there quite a bit, always have fun.

Sure you could take an AM bike out there but it would be much more work to get over some of those moon boulders. But there sure alot of trail choices there. Big thanks going out to Jason for showing us around, not leeting us kill ourselfs. Oh yeah; Ryan has scary talent,he is going to be an awsome racer. Looks like I'll be in the sport class. I dont want to have to go up against those guys on race day. Thanks again guys we alot of fun. Hope to get back out there next weekend.

Definitely agree with bikebike69 on it being a lot of work on an AM bike, just need to know which trails to choose.

safe?? yor saying this to the guy with the least amount of protection? lol. JK, on my way home i bought new goggles and gloves, those alpinestars werent making me happy, and i dont like getting pieces of brush in my eye when i dont stay the course..lol. man, the last climb to get the camelbak was wrong in more than one way. i basically RAN up the paved part, my legs were jelly. then on the decent i floated a bit nose up off the table and REALLY nose up off that rock step off, resulting in a super ill bail to flat, no harm done.

That a boy! Way to go after it, always remember how those reaction times really slow down when you're tired. Just speaking from experience. Glad you had a good time, try the course on the opposite side of the road, pretty fun, take a look at the rock garden first though.

how else do you win them? Jason told me to pedal as fast as i can, and when i come up on some one ram them @ full kill, then yell after as a warning! j/k.. on a side note, how are DH races normally started? 5 sec. between riders? 5 at a time? rock paper scissors?

As long as there's no arm wrestling involved, I think I'm alright, Rob would definitely whoop up on that! At almost every race, there is a 30 second gap between racers. The only time I've seen that different is at the Nationals when there's a huge turnout, which has been a few years, then they'll lessen the time to a 20 second interval. So did you head back out there today Ryan?

also, i read that a discription of crashes, broken parts, problems etc. were helpful to a RR.. so heres one. i made my chain stay protector out of some rubberized PVC, well i let it over hang the stay a bit, resulting in the chain getting sucked in between the ctay and tire, making more than enough noise.. i rode to the truck to cut it off. j had a plesant experience with a chain that envolved a hub, and a few unhappy spokes. Rob met with mr off camber and his friend dry sandy looseness, the three did not get along. michelle got an abrasion to her knee, im unsure of the details but it aparently involved her, a bike, and gravity.

I've met those guys a few times at Fontana. Would of liked to make it out there but I did a Mt Wilson Merrils/Sunset/El Prieto to JPL shuttle instead. I bumped into their brother; Mr loose and steep.
