Default Geoladders and GPS

I saw some blurb of not downloading a .nav file last time I was on geoladders. Is there a way to download the routes to something like say a Garmin Etrex Venture? For trails I'll ride, I can always mark my own routes and waypoints for later use, but for stuff I haven't ridden before, it'd be cool to be able to use my GPS.

Thanks,
Chris

I would suggest that you go to the site's forum (right hand side of screen small lin "open forum". They can help you there. There is some software you can use I think but again...try their site.

Man,

I had to look all over for that thing. Looks like its only on the ladders page of the site. Anyhow, I got the info I needed. Thanks for the heads up.

Damn,

I thought I felt something burning.. I'm gettin there Dave. Hopefully this weather cools off so it will be a little more bearable when we hit the Del Cero next week. Headin to the riv next weekend, so I'll probably look to do that on Monday or Wednesday evening.

Actually through digging off the ladders site, I found motionbased.com and think that would be a pretty cool tool for charting progress and trails/variations of trails.

On a side note, are you going to be plumbing a 22' Schiada sometime this week? If so, I told Trav to call me and I'd shoot the pics etc for the hose deal at the same time. While I was at it, I was going to bring down that pump shaft. I haven't heard from Travis yet, so if you know a date, let me know so I can make sure momma's home to watch the kiddo.

You can actually download routes directly to your GPS if you have a Garmin Edge 205 or 305 AND you are a member of the navfile beta test group. I met one of the regulars a few weeks ago and was asking him about it. I wnt to the site the next day and just act about it and they added me to the group. They have close to 100 routes that are downloadable, mostly in So. Cal. You can also create official routes for the site, I'm heading to Flagstaff next weekend (on Dean's recomendation) and will be mapping 3-4 routes. Look for either Doug Andrews or Terry Best, they are the guys that are in charge.

Yeah, I was actually pm'd on that site from someone who saw my post over here and they offered for me to join the beta group once Ihad the appropriate hardware. Unfortunatley that kind of $$ will be better spent on new shorts and some other stuff for the bike. Now that you mention it though, I wonder why you can't upload the route to something like an Etrex Legend. It's supported by MotionBased, and mainly that was what I was looking for; the ability to upload routes for different variations of trails in areas I'm not familiar with, so I could plan rides that would fit into my schedule.

I'll have to do a little digging on that issue.

Is the etrex made by Garmin and if so does it accept .hst files? If so, I can send you what I have, which is not much as I just got my unit a couple weeks ago.

I think that you can use other GPS than the edge units as I use the Foretrex model. You can use the Garmin GPS mapping software (sold seperately) to download off of other type of Garmin's. Ask Doug Andrews or Terry Best. I only know Terry and he is Very Good about replying. Best of Luck!

Also, note that there are other trails listed on peoples' personal pages that aren't official routes that you see listed in the routes section. It takes a lot of work to make something an official route. Click on somebody's name and look at their "Routes Created". For example, I have 39 routes posted but only 1 official route. 'nuff said. PM me if you need help!

Phat Tire,

I have a PM in with Doug on trying the downloadable files on a non-edge garmin. He's been super quick to respond to my questions so far, which is definitely nice.

Dave,
I can't. Momma is going to be at work until 6:30-7pm, so I'm at home with Emma. Trust me, I wanted to get out this week, but now it looks like I'll end up trying to sqeeze something in over the weekend.

i've been using mb a few months and love it. use Geoladders as well but for personal training mb seems to have some cool capabilities. think u can use for free but some functionality is held back and will only allow u to see most recent rides unless you subscribe. was able to steal 205 on ebay so didn't feel so guilty on paying up for subscription to mb. currently off bike for a bit now but can answer Q's if you have any on edge or mb
