Default RR: San Juan Trail

We had a great ride today. 7 of us showed up Lance, Aldo, Matt (OCRider), Lucas, Scott?, Jeff and myself. Great conditions mostly. A few of the switchbacks are getting blown out by skidders but overall pretty good. The weather wasn't too hot, What more could one ask for? I forgot how fun San Juan is above Cocktail rocks. We went up to Blue Jay and back down. A couple guys were not feeling it and wanted to turn around at the junction of San Juan and Old San Juan but after the STR motivational speech everyone dug deep and made it to Blue Jay Campground.

I'll upload a couple pics after a nap.

Is that the motivational speech that goes something like this

"Do it, you pussy!"?

as displayed by his 5 posts, ocrider had a great time. seriously the youngster charged on his SS, even on the decents. props. to lucas, dude was gimp (bad ankle), and did the entire ride! scott(?) took a nice digger near cocktail rock and stood-up displaying quite a bit of blood... but didn't faze him as he continued to charge down.

bluejay is a great destination, with water, shade, etc. killer ride, 23+ miles, great loop, and decending from cocktail rock to the parking lot is WAY FUN!!

Scott did a spectacular endo coming down to the first switchback on the way down from cocktail rock. I just cleared the switchback and hear him say "oh no" or something like that and see him endo but somehow miraculously managed to land on his feet and run it out.

I didn't see where he crashed after that so no pics of the carnage but he donated a lot of skin.

A few pics:
1 - group at Cocktail rocks
2 - Aldo and Lucas taking a "shortcut"
3 - OC Rider had to wait so long for the others to catch up he grew a beard.

If you like pic #2, you'll love Pinos. I don't know many riders that have rode much of that one. I did it ONCE.

A little late on the response, but yeah, killer ride yesterday!

Glad everyone found the motivation to make it all the way to Blue Jay. That felt like a great accomplishment getting all the way up there!

You all missed out on the rockin' brew and bbq post-ride!

And I think it was Todd, not scott.

Correct it was Todd, not Scott, a soon to be STRer. And i will post 2 carnage pics today from Todds crash.

Yeah the motivational speech was more, its only like 3 more miles of light climbing, then oh its only like 1 or 1.5 miles more, oh were almost there, oh its just around the corner.....etc

But great ride and im glad i was forced to continue to Blue Jay. That downhill was defenitely worth the climbing

hit up san juan on sunday the 20th took a great ride up to blue jay. on the trail at 6:30 nice and cool got above the fog line, beautiful scene fog whisping over the hill tops with the bright sunshine. crisp and clear.
was on the hard tail...brutal. the rear end gets bucked all around. i forgot how painful it can get on the hard tail. it's night and day vs. a full squish.
trail is loose and deep in some sections. this trail always rule! next time i'll be on the bullit again.
