Default SART part2

Today we had the second part of the SART ride and it was a good one. 21 or 22 people showed for this ride and it went off pretty smoothly for a group that size. No real mechnicals or biologicals. I'm not sure of the mileage but it was okay, (a little short for my liking). We cooked up some dawgs over at Barton Flats after the ride and just sat around and bs'ed. Good day, good times and great trails, what more can a person ask for???

I liked the ride today, Scott put together a route that was easy. I think 24 started and 18 stayed with us after the first bailout loop.

We parked at Seven Oaks Road and Radford Camp Road and went up the fireroad that follows Santa Ana River to Southfork Campground. I thought the fireroad climb was very nice...mostly in the big trees and sound of the river nearby..great! At Southfork we came back the SART to Glass Road, some bailed out, some did another out and back on the SART...then to Barton Flats to eat. After eating no one fealt like shuttling the Lynks Lake run. I have no idea how many miles or elevation, paid no attention to the time. I just know that I never really got tried or winded the whole ride. I never got hot all day and the bugs left me alone.

Happy Trail....Dean

Are you sure those are Tiger Lilly's? Those are some beautiful flowers. The flower comes on the end of the stalk with only the one flower on the whole stalk. And the flower faces down towards the ground. I told somebody last week when we rode here that they were probably named Tiger sumthing.

Nice size group yesterday. The fireroad climb was mild and me and Ricardo were just cruising along at the end of the pack. We were about 1/2 mile from the cabins when we heard this aweful screaching noise over towards the left in the canyon. We looked over there and Ricardo said it's probably a coyote, then we heard it again! I said that's no f-ing coyote, and we kicked it into another gear and got the hell out of there. We regrouped with everyone at the camp and headed up the SART. The ST started up with a mild climb for about a mile and then it was mostly fun dh all the way to Glass Rd. There were a few sections where the st was eroided a bit but it was ridable if you were careful. A few bushes were sticking out from the cliff where the st turned a sharp left and some of them got me as I rode by. We regrouped at Glass Rd and some peeps had to leave, so the rest of us headed down the SART.

This section was mostly up and down rollers with some technical rock sections thrown in with creek crossings. Everything was ridable going down except for a few spots where you had to cross the creek. We regrouped after this muddy section of dh that ends at another creek. A few guys tried to ride down and across the creek and ended up taking a swim in the cold water. Everyone had a good laugh and we turned around and headed back up the SART where we started. There was a lot more climbing going back the other way and I had to walk one technical rock section. I got tired about half way going back up and took a break under some shade. We regrouped at Glass Rd again and headed to where we parked.

Most of us drove to the campground and had some dawgs, cold freshies, and bs'ed a while. The bugs weren't a problem and we had some good weather throughout the whole ride. Not sure what was the total ride distance but someone mentioned it was about 20 miles. Great way to spend a Sunday, good times!

There's more pics on this thread... http://www.ermtb.com/index.php?name=...r=asc&start=45

We need some more girls on these rides! I kept looking around, waiting for some other girls to show up. But nooooo. Nothin' but guys. Not that I'm complaining.... ya know, it'd just be nice to have some other girls to ride with while trying to keep up with all you boys.

Default couple days late but what the hell

Thanks to the guys that put this Part2 together. SART is an excellent ride. I loved the rolling singletrack very fun with some very EXPOSED parts. Wish I could have stayed to continue on after the first part but I just wasn't really comfortable riding in my sneakers !!! yes I forgot my dang riding shoes. so climbing/riding in my sneakers on TIME pedals sucked
and it drained alot of my engery while climbing.
But I would do this ride again in a heartbeat!

Hbrunner, you were faster then me, LOL. I think on the way back from the second trail was easier than the first one after the fire road climb. It was a nice climb but I got sick of it. I was expecting more of a rolling down thing. All my battle scars are from the bushes sticking out. Got my left hand wacked off my bars once, was kinda scary.
