Thumbs up RR;Hart Park Loop (central O.C.)

Hart park is in the beautiful historic district of Orange, and conveniently located next to (and sometimes underneath) the 22 freeway. While pretty tame by MTB standards, those with spouses or kids new to MTB would do well to start at a picturesque flat easy ride like this as a prelude to ruggeder things like Peter's or the loop (trust me). In the 90's and early millennium the place had a thriving BMX scene, many lines, step ups, doubles, and six packs dotted every nook and cranny. Back then the park was also adjacent to the South Side liquor store, making the park an excellent place to litter with tall cans, squat in the bushes and overpasses, and publicly defactae for our homeless brothers and sisters. Nowadays the park has been sanatized of it's scruffy past and is a family friendly host to many birth day parties and company picnics on weekends. Other amenities include Lawn bowling, Rock climbing, R/C flight, Archery, as well as an new interpretive nature center.

Cycling is our focus and the park features miles of paved and dirt trails for your pedaling delight. Despite the absence of South side and the more memorable trails a few remanants of the Park's glory days live on in a well shaped wall ride, Concrete hip, waxed ledges/stairs, and some very shady DJ. All in all a nice mellow place to ride that is more intoxicating than a tall can. My guest and model for the day was Chris from Jax LB who despite being hit by a car earlier in the week came out and rode anyway. After a little urging he started jumping and eventually tasted dirt and took over film detail while nursing his broken ribs. Some of the highlights are the single track, and the crest of a grueling climb at the "end zone" . Clockwise loops work best, and there is another half to the place we did not shoot.

Enjoy the ride responsibly....

To get to Hart Park take the 55 to the 22W and Get off at glassel.Turn right Or North and the park is right off the Freeway exit. Its a fun loop that ya cant miss. I start on the South side of the park and head west, cross a bridge at the dead end and head back East on the North side of the park. You then come to another dead end where you started. Cross the Bridge then follow a marked bike path to the dead end on the East side of the park.I do multiple laps. Its a nice ride that is 1 Mile from home.
