Default Big Bear/ Summit this summer...

Hey all.

I was wondering if people ever go to Big Bear/ Summit for the downhill/ Norba courses during the summer months? I'd like to check them out & maybe get a season pass.

Where do you get the passes & would anyone be up for carpooling on weekends from Burbank/ Hollywood general area?

Thanks

Snow Summit is closed to downhill bikes. You may or may not be able to get a freerideish bike up on the lifts depending on whomever is working the lift at the moment. I would not bother with snow summit. Some people are working on getting Mt. Baldy open to downhill bikes, but it looks like that won't be happening until next year.

I have a Giant Reign 1 which has 6" of travel front & rear. I use it for XC & AM ridiing. It weighs around 31lbs, so I I guess it should be OK for the chair lifts.

The weight limit is 35lbs. I went for a day (8 runs) and was over it by that time. Fun way to spend the day, but not a weekend.

It is my understanding that all trails on Snow Summit property are closed. They don't even hold downhill events there anymore.

Dookie you are right. The trails on the summit slopes are closed to bikes. You have to ride outside of the snow trails. As for the bikes, nothing over 35lbs and no more than 6 inches of travel. Gay...

I think Baldy be open by this summer.

I wouldn't give SS one damn penny of my money!

If you must venture up there, there are XC type trails on the other side of the lake near Fawnskin.

Mammoth will be open once all the snow melts.

Anyone go to Mamouth then in July/ August? I'd be up for a carpool thing as it's a good 5 or 5 hour drive from LA.

I'm in for Mammoth, I loved the trails last year. Question is, when will the snow melt? The Nationals have already been moved from there....

Last year, I went in August and there were still patches of snow at the top (though dirty and melty). But, does make for some nice weather, especially compared to hot stuff down here (and I'm not talking guys in lycra).

My nephew who owns a condo up there is telling me they don't expect the snow to be gone till mid August. Lower portions are good to go though.
