It's US v. THEM
|
Damn it feels good to be a gangstr (aka STR take a kid mtb day)
Two thoughts.
1) WOW!!! 2) THANKS!!! First the WOW. What a great time today. I cannot believe the turnout for STR's (second annual) take a kid mtb day. What a great GANG STR can be when everyone gets together and puts the BS aside! Never focussed on a full headcount but must have been well over 40 peeps big and small. Was getting a bit concerned with the rumor of rain that some would bail, but most everyone showed and the rain gods were on our side today. Perhaps in a display of their mad love for the KIDS, it actually started sprinkling only when everyone was heading back to the cars. Now the THANKS. First thanks to my wife and son (G-ride), who are my best friends and ride partners. Thanks to all the STR gang who joined in today and made this event what is intended for...the KIDS. Thanks to everyone for their contributions to the bbq and special shout out for Craig (CalEpic), Traci (Surlygal) Greg (Ghixon), and Nan (Dusty) for all their added help today. Finally a big thanks to all the shops, clubs and organizations who stepped up HUGE and made very generous donations to the kids free raffle and giveaway. The kids went nuts for the raffle...it was like x-mas in Oct. Again in no special order they include - The Path Bike Shop (Tani aka thephat) - Switchback Cyclery (sherry aka cowgirl) - REI Santa Ana - Jensen USA (Jared aka ~pakiha~) - Intense Cycles (Neil aka 1x1Clyde) - SHARE mtn bike club - IMBA - you know it all started with them!!! Similar to last year i didn't get too many pics as was having too much fun but here's a few to start. I know Dusty and a few others got some shots so hope everyone can post the pics of the mad fun today. Once again THANK YOU to EVERYONE who helped make today all about the KIDS!!!

What an awesome day! The weather cooperated beautifully, the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves. The raffle was pure insanity. Neil - I'm not sure turning a bunch of hooligans loose with Intense decals was such a good idea. I know my son got at least 5 on my back. I think Nam got a few too. I'll edit in some pics once I get them uploaded.
Thanks to Adam (Kid A) for putting this together. All the people and shops that came through with swag for the kids, if you weren't there you missed some serious mayhem. It was great! The donations are seriously appreciated and it made a huge impression on the kids. Adam listed those companies, I know when I'm shopping, I'll remember them. A couple observations from this year's ride: Wow, ton's of folks with trailers. Good job getting them stoked early. There are some genuinely good people on STR. The BBQ fixin's people brought were pretty impressive. I don't think anyone left hungry and I'm sure our kids' dentists will appreciate the business from all the sweets. The dedication to making sure the kids had a good time was universal. There were a lot of smiling kids today. The future of our sport looks bright. Mason and I had a great time today. It so nice to watch all the kids enjoying them selves. My favorite part of the day was the raffle. It was so funny when Nan called out a number and nobody answered ( I think it was Adams son) " No I don't think anybody has that number". Classic. Thank you to everybody for a truly good time. Kids make you remember what got us all riding. I will post pics when my battery charges.

Dam you soccer...! I sooo wanted to take my boy today as he prefers riding his bike to kicking a ball around in a mob. Tomorrow we have our own little "Take your kid riding" day. Looks like a great time was had...

Adam did an awesome job. Special thanks to Julia led the group on the ridge. The little kids had little bikes and the big kids had big bikes and everyone had a good time. I got a ton of great shots and it was tough to narrow it down. Here is the edited version. I tried to get everyone.
