So I am at the track on Orange and Julia tells me I should go ride this with her. Her mom couldn't ride so she wanted me to go so she had someone she knows to ride with.

I am glad I did, had a really good time.
Some of my favorite parts, watching the kids almost attack the prizes when called over.

Having a few people ask if Julia was my daughter (It was a valid question but kinda funny since most people know her Mom)

Watching the kids on the little bikes and push bikes all over the place. Especially the kid who would get training wheels stuck and would just keep pedaling with wheel spinning until someone got him moving again.

Getting Julia to test ride an IH and even say she was taking it home

This is way, way cool. I am by no means old enough to have a kid, but I hope this event continues year after year and hopefully one day I'll have a little grom to take out with me.

Major kudos to you, Kid A, and everyone involved.

Thumbs up Good Times

This was only my third 'STR' ride and it was a fun one. Got to hang with my protege this time and enjoy the festivities with her. There was some talented kids in the group negotiating the trails, as well as some up-and-comers. When bighit would pull a wheelie, lil' bighit (Mason) would do the same [almost] on his 12er. So cool. The weather held up nicely, plenty of good eats, lots of swag, and all the kids had a blast. A good day, indeed.

It was a pleasure, as usual, to meet and ride with some more STR peeps. A big thanks to Kid A for organizing this ride. Thanks also to the sponsors and everybody else involved in making the event run smoothly. Looking forward to next year's "kid" ride.

PEACE

This was Masons longest ride and I think he did great.6 miles for the little guy. I wish his brother would have come, but he was a Cub Scouts and hes getting to the age that hanging with dad isn't as cool as his friends. This was such a great event. I have had a lot of good rides on STR. I joined 1 year ago this month and this was my favorite ride so far. Looking forward to next year.

Thank you Adam and to everyone who had a hand in putting this outing together. My kids had a great time, and that's saying something. hard to believe in day and age that it's a bit of a battle to get them outside and on a bicycle. and the complaints from the kids were minimal at best. a Wonderful Saturday. here's a standing "O"

Default Nothing Novel but...

Vid - nothing very special. just flipping through most all the varied pics everyone posted up above...thanks!

"Sending" it to IMBA as they asked us to share ride/event pics with them. As most know this event is really all their idea.

Again thanks to all that participated via donations and/or riding!!!

also posting a pic and map (u must click attachment below for map) of the group B kids ride for those little ones/ Looks like 7+ mile and 600+- ft. (topped out at 16% grade) pretty serious clicks for some of those little guys/gals mashing on the small wheeled rigs.

Craig's group did lake lap as well and maybe ridge???

Congrats to all of them!!!

well imba just posted the winners and unfortunately the STR ride didn't have a "winning tix" for the kids mtn bike (see note below fund at imba site).

Thanks to all who joined in for the fun and all the shops/organizations that donated some great swag.

I hope we can keep the "traditional" going to next year for STR's 3rd annual take a kid a mtb day

National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day Draws Thousands of Young Riders

The fifth edition of IMBA's Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, falling on Oct. 4 this year, continued the program's tradition of getting young riders outdoors on bikes. The 2008 celebration was held in locations around the globe, including events in Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mexico and the US. More than 160 groups registered their events on IMBA's website, and more than 6,200 kids took part, doubling participation from last year.

Longtime IMBA corporate supporter Schwinn donated kids bikes to 10 lucky clubs. Once again, the good folks at CLIF ZBaR http://www.clifbar.com/ donated healthy snacks for registered events. The National Park Service and SmartWool also contributed their support to the event.

Assistance is also provided by Trips for Kids, helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1988. Trips for Kids chapters nationwide make a difference in kids' lives by opening their world to mountain biking. By starting a Trips for Kids Chapter in your town, you can take disadvantaged kids on mountain biking all year long.
