Default santiago canyon trail....

yeah my buddy steve and i just got back from a short ride this morning, and it was a BLAST! anyone ever been on this trail? there isnt much to it unless you climb alot up the first hill. it took us about half an hour to climb it, but once we decided to do it and go downhill it was crazy! that was BY FAR the craziest downhill anything ive done on a bike! and we were riding hardtails also....fast, scary, and i want to do it again soon!....it just sucked walking our bikes all the way up it. it was real steep. who else has done this here?

thanx,

-Reid

That's Santiago Oaks Regional Park. Lots of fun to be had there, sounds like you found some.

Ah, Santiago Oaks, yes one of my favorite places to ride. I've only been on the main trails there, Chutes, Waterfall, and the 3 B's climbing up. There are a few more other trails in there that I haven't been on. We, my g/f and I usually take the main trail up, stop at Robber's peak to rest and head down the single track to the ride towards Chutes then back out. You can also link up with the Weir Canyon Loop. The junction is located to your left when you come down the singletrack from the "Play Area" by the powerlines. Instead of taking the left down Chutes off the singletrack, you can take the right and go down Waterfall which is a pretty technical. I know this may sound confusing, but I'm sure there are a lot more other users on here that can give you detailed directions.

Check out the book Mountain Biking Orange County. It has some information on this trail.

Did you climb the fireroad or did you climb the singletrack?

YOu would be amazed at how many people get lost and end up doing this ride backwards.

I would love to ride with you guys on these trails, they're a lot of fun. I can't go next weekend since I'll be in Mammoth Skiing/mtn biking during Memorial Day weekend, but the weekend after or if you guys wanna meet up after work this week, I'm available Mon-Thur. Just let me know which day you guys plan on going. I can usually make it to Albertson's parking lot around 5:45pm for Santiago Oaks.

Oh yeah, last time going up S.O., I couldn't climb the first hill. I was so bummed, I can usually clean it, but I couldn't do it.

Mtnbikej, do you usually ride with Winston at S.O. on the weekdays? If so, I may have seen you up there. On the FooRiders website, Winston has photos from 5/18 http://fooriders.com/CS/forums/224/ShowThread.aspx#224 I remember riding up with the B's with the guy in the Orange Nomad. He and I were walking, haha.

Giving blood tomorrow, and my wheel is still at Hadley for repair--so Monday is out for me. How about Tuesday?

I'm partial to the Hidden Canyon trailhead, but any will do. What time works for most?

Nah, that's Shitty on the Nomad.

I usually do the ride with the crew from Switchback Cyclery.

Usually 6pm at the shopping center. We usually ride with the Switchback Cyclery group. Casual XC ride, usually some extra credit climbs to allow the slower riders to catch up.

mtnbikej,

I'm down for a Tues night ride. Do you know if S.O. will be open tomorrow? They've been pretty strict with the park after rains this season. The last couple of times, I've gone durning/after rain, the park has been closed off. Where do you meet? At Switchback @ 6pm or Albertson's @ 6pm (Chapman & Jamboree)?

Don't know for sure. Really won't know til tomorrow afternoon. Depends on how fast the sun comes out today and how much/warm it is tomorrow.

We usually meet at the Albertson's Lot @6pm.
