Much bigger/steeper/technical, pads and a full face recommended. You can see the drop from Laguna Canyon Road.

Think of it this way: You can't pedal all the way up Steps, unlike Rock-It and (for some mutants) Lynx. Scout out the waterfall and chunkier rock gardens before you head down them. Or, start your ride from the Laguna Coast Wilderness parking lot and ride/hike up Steps (begins at the water tank at the top of Philips Road) first to see what you're in for. It's by far the most technical legal trail in Aliso.

Oh?! I missed that. Last I heard it wasn't legal, nice! Oh, wait maybe I'm thinking of Dog Park? Aren't they right by each other?

Never mind, my bad.

Brain fart.

More than I was ready for the one time I have gone down it. I ended up walking more than riding. I am happy staying on Lynx or Rock it. A little bit of a drive but try Santiago Oaks and go down the chutes. One of my favorite downhill sections around.

Here is a comprehensive link , Def worth checking out. You can catch a good tour of Oaks from the path most Sunday mornings.

Climbing Stair Steps is impossible for me, but descending it isn't (mostly). It's by far more technical than Rock-It or Lynx.

I usually park on Laguna Canyon Rd, hike/ride up Stair Steps, tool around Aliso, and then finish the ride by descending Stair Steps. Makes for a nice challending day.

My thought exactly.

There WAS a time when I thought descending Rock-it was a challenge. The locos I ride with on Thursdays have shown me a new definition of "technical".

To answer your question though, Stairsteps is the more challenging of the three you mentioned.

Depends on the bike. I have a lot of fun on my 80mm hardtail doing down rock it and meadows. I was chatting with a guy at the bottom of cholla and he was showing me his new 6" bike and he said descending with it was "like cheating", so I think it really depends on the rig.

Why? Different bikes may mean different lines choices and different speeds but the trails are still wide with bumpy but mild features and p-lines around the rock gardens.
