Default RR: Gav. Day Pics

Ok I will go first.

First off, I hope that your hand is OK Jose, let us know what the x-ray shows. Ride was slow due to injuries and flat tires, one injury and I think 8 flat tires. Yes that granite in the San Gabriels takes a toll on bikes and people.

The picture of Jose sitting is where he decided to step off the left side of the trail. I did not see the incident just a upside down Jose laying on the rocks. Could have been much worse.

I tried to post pictures of most of the crew but some of you guys I only have pictures of you dabbing so send me $ or I will post. My favorite picture of the day is Scott doing a one handed wheely...sweet...how do you get that 15lbs fork up in the air?

Thanks for all that show and we will do it again soon. The next one won't be a shuttle and we will go further up the mountain to Mt. Hillyer (Chilao) and play on the boulders. Give me a date.

Thumbs up

I just want to say what a great day today was, even though we had a few mishaps. i was really happy to see some of my fellow veteran STR members that i haven't ridden with in a long time, and the newer guys on STR. it was truly a pleasure.

A few flats, ripped tires, and a busted hand, were the issues of the day, but the best thing of all is that everyone was able to ride out of there.

my biggest mistake: i flatted my rear tire 3 times , i was thinking i was blowing my tire due to the pressure adjustmet that i made yesterday on my rear shock (that was the biggest change i did on my overall set up for this ride) which made the rear less plush. i had a ripped sidewall!! i saw this not too long ago. i guess my tire checking technique needs to be modified, i can't believe i missed that detail!!!! anyhow, i have to thank you guys for the patience and Matt for the extra tube.

Jose, i hope the hand isn't too badly messed up.

MY fellow STR members from the OC: i was happy to see you guys like the craziness out here and hope we can get together like this again for some other wild rides!!

Pain Freak, Tom C, Pshloss, mtbracer36, Scott: great riding with you guys!!

see you guys on the next one!!

I did not get that shot, that will have to come from someone else.

Anytime, I will probaly have been there once or twice before that date. I usually ride the San Gabriels a least once a week.

Default Ride report

First of all - Thank you Dean for organizing this ride. I had a blast.

Jose - I hope your hand is ok.

As mentioned, several tubes were sacrificed today.

I especially liked all the challenging switchbacks.

I was so hungry by the time we ate, I'm not sure if Pepe's was good or not. It sure tasted ok to me.

Here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure:

#1 Group Shot from L to R
Mike, Jose, Lucas, Pete, Frank, Scott, Tom, Matt (Vondur), Rob, Matt (Intense Kipp), Armando, Dell, Dean

#2 Rob dropping in on a steep roll.

#3 Rob's tire blew it's load after a nasty gash. Pat if you need me to confirm to your wife that the sticky stuff on your sock is Stan's just let me know

Good ride today guys.

Looks like you guys had a good time. Death Valley was fun but f'ing hot, 105 at Badwater.

I'm planning on riding from Chilao to Millard this coming Sunday with OTB on the second day of their Annual Chilao Epic. The following weekend there is chatter about another long shuttle from Chilao to JPL. Chilao on the 21st sounds great.

Thanks to Dean for planning this ride and showing us OC'ers some new trails. They were certainly fun and challenging, and definately took out a few tires/tubes a long the way. Jose, hope your hand heals up quickly man. I have some pics I'll post tomorrow. Great ride everybody!

Dean- excellent pics, especially the ones on the stairs. Very cool. Sorry I had to blast, but just ran out of time. I did Sunset, but my drivetrain was acting up (see thread in Workshop) so I cut it short after that. I think everyone will like the Chilao area, but there is definitely some climbing involved there. Let us know how the conditions are when you ride it.

thanks everyone for asking about my hand!! It feels soo much better and all the ice I've put since yesturday has helped the swelling down!! I was feeling soo much better that I had to take a ride on the new bike I got (is not much but I will post pixs later).

ohh yes that was a weak ride for me b/c I had to ride the freaking fire road on the way down!! but @ least I didnt have to get a chopper ride out of there!! so again thanks everyone for being supportive and for being cool about the whole thing!! I will try not to fall as much next time!! I'm gladd everyone had a nice fun ride!! lets do it again soon!

btw I promise to take some xrays this week just to be sure!!

Yeah Jose, better take a pic of that hand just in case. You don't want to have something broken in there and end up with more problems down the line........by not having it treated properly. The way it swelled up like that usually isn't a good sign bub

Good to meet some more of the STR crew. I think that was the biggest shuttle group I've been a part of. Jose; glad to hear you made it out alive. It's a good idea to follow TurneRob's advice. If something is screwed up, a couple weeks off the bike is better than having a long term problem. I'll try and get the few pics I took up soon. Dean; thanks for getting the ride together and also for giving up part of your ride to nurse Jose out.
