Default Blackstar malfunction-Thanks

I was the poor bastard that blew his rim out on the way up to beaks in which Kid A took the nice photo op. on the other thread. Everyone at The Path had never seen anything like it, I feel special. The thought is that I must have had some sort of road debris in the V-brakes that caused gradual, then fatal deteriation of the rim.

I really just want to that all of you that stopped to assist me. Most everyone that passed me asked if I needed help and offered me food or water. You STR riders are some super cool folks . I want to specially thank Jeremy who took the time to help trim of the rim and get the other tube in. The missing piece of rim did not allow me to inflate the tire enough to ride, but after removing the brake and taking out a bunch of air, I was able to walk the bike instead of carry it. The 2 hour walk back sucked, but having to carry the bike would have REALLY sucked. I got my work out, not exacty how I expected though. I was actually OK with the ordeal after realizing that if I was on the decent, I surely would have had a nasty wreck, and then would have to carry the bike back (if I was able). The tire would have blow out and the metal rim would have locked the brake. As inconvenient as it was, someone above did watch out for me.

Thanks again,
Alex

Well, we wondered how long of a hike out that would be from where we tried to help you out! Glad to know you made it out OK and have stories to tell!!

I have never seen that either. I hear you need a new bike though.

Disk brakes would help a bit too.

That's what I get. No kids and the wife out of town = a few beers and falling asleep on the couch at 9ish..

I am going to do the Path ride this morning. First time in a few months.

Hey Alex,
I was the guy who stopped top help out (Jeremy). You're welcome. Just paying it forward. Was a pleasure to meet you. Too bad it was due to a mechanical issue. That was the first time I'd seen a wheel do that. Sorry the attempted fix didn't allow you to ride it. Glad you got out without too much trouble. So is Mavic going to cover that under warranty?

Thanks again Jeremy. Unfortunately, I bought the rims just over a year ago (July 07) and the thought is that the V-brakes just ground them down over time. Doesn't seem right, but oh well. The guys at The Path must have felt for me so they were cool enough to front me a nice demo while my bike gets fixed. I went ahead a bought some cheapie rims to get me by until I can purchase a new bike. So thanks anyway for the rim offer Kid A, quite a nice gesture.
After riding demo bike at Peter's yesterday, I'm regretting that I didn't just toss my old bike over the cliffs at Blackstar to make the walk easier, which was suggested, and go buy a new bike. OK Steve, you were right, I am long overdue for an upgrade.

no worries - glad things worked out with a replacement.

that would have been classic - just heep it over the hill and walk out. sort of like my golf game, start the round with 13 clubs and come back with 9????
