Default Beeks or Bust (sat 8-2-08)

well appears there were 2 scheduled rides to hit beeks this am and this dumba$$ somehow missed them both.

Drive over to b-star gate started out nice and overcast so was pumped to see fog thinking it would hide the sun and heat a bit.

Turns out 5 minutes later the sun blazes through. at least i was rocking out to my new direct ipod hook up in my truck (just installed it yesterday)

arrive at gate and see a bunch of peeps just on the othe side. as i park the truck and look over then GONE??? d@mn, no luv fo me

get bike ready and kit up in plan of a mad chase. think that pack had a good 20 minutes on me so seeing that i havent climbed b-star (or anything) in quite some time my 1:20 today (think i'm usually 1;10) pace up there did not seem to allow me to close the gap.

After s few minutes atop to take some pics and some clif bloks it back down.

Just as i start my decent, i see rawhead??? wtf i thought you were the folks ahead of me. we rap a bit and head back down together and come across team 2 (maxwell, cpatcrash, willie, jason and some other cool folks). Just as we are talking to them the rabbits i was chasing come down as well, We introduce and they all seem like cool peeps.

head back down and now the mystery is solved. appears i split the difference and was stuck between these packs are ended up riding alone. actually was pretty nice to turn the brain off on the fireroad climb and just spin.

Just as we take off from this melding of riders we come across another rider climbing who seems to need some traie side mech asistance. never seen this before but this poor guy blew out his rim at the v-brake line. we all tried to help a bit (with rawhead taking the lead) but sounds like this poor b@stard (seemed like a real cool guy) was gonna be humpin his bike down the 6+ miles he just climbed.

most rest of ride was uneventful typical bomb down the fire ride. (aside from a helicopter bussin arounf real low like it was looking for a down rider ???)

Overall a fun chill ride but a bit hot and dusty.

Sorry i f'd up my arrival time and look forward to hooking up with some of the folks (new and old) for a ride again

Kid, it was good seeing you!

Our group started right around 8:30'ish. Nothing fancy going up, just some steading pedaling.
Like Adam said, we ran into a few groups as we reached the last turn to Beek's. We took a good break, and headed down. Four of us hit the singletrack down by the gate. It's short, but it's singletrack, and pointed down, so it just a bit of FUN, to go along with the long fireroad descent!

Papi B, Jason, and Steve....going down!

Jason putting some miles on the proto Tracer VP.

That's it for pictures!

Pat, Willie and I hit one more section of ST before cruzing the fireroad on down.

Oh, I almost forgot. We stopped at the Indian Campground and checked it out. I've been riding Blackstar for years, and today was my first time checking it out. Very cool. Nice place to stop and regroup.

Anyway's, fun ride, with a great group.

Chronic Tacos was a great place to end up at for refilling! That fish toastada bowl was GREAT!

My GPS showed just over 16.5 miles, but for some reason I can't get on Motionbased right now to check everything else out.

Happy trails!

nice "meeting" you

that must have been a miserable hike. if it were me it would have taken 2+ hrs and all you would have heard was cursing the entire way down.

it truly sux leaving a guy with a mech like that but i guess there are some repairs only mcguyver could fix trailside. hope he didnt have any plans right after ride

Hi All,

I was in the first group with GreenGaint. It was my first time going to Blackstar and riding with a STR member - I'm impress with the riders on this site and came across on cool riders from STR as we were going down.

GreenGiant - It was nice riding with you and thanks for the little tour - Indian site. Kudos to your Leatherman tool.

KidA - Nice meeting you...Nice shorts...Next time.

Thanks..STR

Thanks for posting the ride Maxwell! We had a great time, despite the heat. You guys (Darrin, Pat, Joel, Steve, and Jason) are all a pleasure to ride with.

Adam, it was nice seeing you! And Steve's friend with the broken bike - what a bummer! At least he didn't get hurt!

Good riding with you again KidA. You should ride that Turner more often, sweet bike. Thanks for the water at the top. Damn weather was deceiving Best part of the ride... when I caught back up with you after attempting to fix that wheel... you didn't know I was behind you when I rode right up on your wheel and said "Thought you could lose me eh?"... Spooked you so bad you almost fell off your bike lol. See you soon.
