When I heard about this little camping weekend I had no idea it had turned in to such a huge event. My wife had to work so I decided to bring the kids up camping and hang out. Dell was looking for somewhere to go with his family as well so things worked out great. We drove up Thursday afternoon to get out of the heat. It was fun on Friday watching everyone come in. Some people did a little ride that evening but for Colby, Reagan and I it was campground and dirt road riding.
![]() Colby decided this was his race track. He would take on all comers. He owned the inside line. ![]() ![]() Here is Colby racing Scott. ![]() Colby was asking Scott if he wanted to race. Scott fires back, " I will only race you if you let me win." Colby accepts. They start racing and Colby jumps out to the lead. At the end of the race he stops about an inch from the finish line and lets Scott go by for the win. He needs to work on the "letting someone else win" concept. Reagan loved the bell on Dean's bike. Every time he would ride by and ring the bell she would look towards the street and yell, "Dean!!" ![]() Apparently Colby was getting fairly sure of himself. Mike told me that he went over to their camp and said he wanted to race their fastest guy. He was having a blast. I'm sure Dean did several extra miles during the weekend riding campground laps with him. You guys really know how to make a 6 year olds day. Thanks! Saturday morning while everyone went riding, we went fishing. ![]() ![]() Look at that casting form. ![]() Reagan was happy about getting to the top. Colby took the picture. ![]() He also took this funny shot of Riley ![]() Reagan does a log ride. It is never to early to start freeriding. ![]() It was great to finally meet Sara and Gavin. They were outstanding camp mates. Thanks for putting up with all of my kids "energy". Those meatballs were the bomb. You 3 are welcome at my house any time! My wife arrived Saturday afternoon so I was able to get some riding in on Sunday. I got up early and ran my experimental minibike shuttle to Camp Nelson. It took me 30 minutes to drive the truck down to the bottom and 30 minutes to ride the Honda 50 back up. It was a success. Dean, Scott, Dell, Mike, Matt, Gabe, and I hit the trail around 10 and had a great run. After we got back to camp A few of the riders were thinking of skipping the afternoon ride. I mentioned that I already had clearance from the wife so I was going to do something even if I had to go solo. (This was easy for me to say because my drive home was only an hour.) It took about 2 seconds for Scott, Dean, and Matt to decide they were in. We made full use of our Sunday. We were able to put several pieces of trail together and complete a great section of it. I have some photos but I will post them in Dean's other thread. What a great weekend. I meet quite a few new STR faces but only briefly. I was not trying to avoid everyone, I just had my hands full most of the time with the kids. I hope to get another chance to meet you all soon. |

It was really very cute. We turn around and Colby is standing there. Dean fires off about 5 different questions and Colby remains silent....A few more seconds go by and Dean asks if he wants to race and Colby says"Who's your fastest rider"? Well, of course we all point to Dean and there they go. Dean took him out withy a strong elbow and a cut to the inside.
Highlight of my trip! Someone said they seen Colby walking around later in the day saying something like "I'll get that old man someday"!

I had such a great time this weekend! This was my first real camping trip (how sad) and it will not be the last! I had a few issues including frozen feet the first night and crashing pretty early on Saturday's ride. I still had a GREAT time. Shannon's chicken & dumpling soup and Matt's garlic chicken were a nice diversion from our franks and beans, heehee.
It was nice meeting Jeff and Scott for the first time also. Jeff has some of the cutest kids in the world, and Scott's snoring kept making me think there were bears outside my tent. Now for the fotos...
