Captian of BIG RED
|
Thanks for the pics. I had a chance to ride there last week and yes it is sandy and yes some of the trails have changed. The way I look at it is, this is just the latest encarnation of Whiting and right now it is sandy, but that will change. I had a good time there and with the sand I was able to see some big cat prints mixed in with some deer prints, makes me remember where I am.
Does anyone know when Mojeska and the Luge will be open? |

It's scheduled to open NOV. 2008. Given I volunteer for the USFS, I'll keep everyone posted if I hear anything different from Debra.

Thanks for the update--decided to ride out there after work yesterday instead of Aliso after looking at your pics.
Cleaning all the sand pits on Borrego has become the latest challenge! Only two big ones left to figure out how to "float" across the top of the sand and not have to resort to walking!

Ruining It For The 95%
|
ended up starting solo around 615pm and was totally surprised at the first big sand wash which is right before what used to the second bridge. Ended up cleaning all the sand pits, 29ers do work!
legs were completely shot from the 52 mile round trip commute on tuesday, but managed to still middle ring the entire ride. i've never really tried doing that since i was always on a heavy bike with a 36T middle. caught up with Carl's (pho'dup) crew at the bottom of mustard. turns out shannon his buddy got a flat so we poached borrego and went the wrong way on a 1 way trail to help her out. got to try out my new topeak turbo morph and it kicks butt tall boys were consumed at the top of dreaded and along the ridge by sage scrub..

The trail is getting better. The "high" line near the middle to end of Borrego is disappointing, but the sand is compacting nicely (or getting carried out on the legs and bikes of bikers and hikers, ha!). I've ridden it at least 6 times now and the deer are coming back and no big cat tracks, yet.
