While others were off having fun riding singletrack and other asleep in their beds, The Warriors Society was up early this morning and out on the trail.... no bikes this time... just picks, shovels & fench building supplies. as most of you know, the Luge really took a beating between the fires of last year and the rains earlier this year. The trail had become unrideable. In preparation of opening up the Cleveland National forest again this fall, the US Forest Service had arranged for the WS to start working on the trail. There have been many hours put in to date and it is starting to look like a great trail again.
Several areas had to be completely rebuilt with a major trail rerouting at the bottom. Although it's not open just yet... it's looking better and better. There is a move afoot to try and get the Santiago Truck Trail to the Luge and down open before November... there are no promises at this point, but keep your fingers crossed! When it does open, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at some of the improvements. Until then, please don't attempt riding this just yet. The rangers are intent on keeping people out and they ARE fining those caught. We all want to see this beauty opened back up for everyone's enjoyment as soon as possible...poaching does not help our cause. Here are some of the pictures shot this morning.

I don't think my white socks will ever be the same. After the trail work, we ate a hardy breakfast at Cook's Corner. I never realized just how many really fat people ride Harleys ... until Lar-Dog happen to mention they get that way eating food from Cook's!
![]() BTW: there's a nice little reroute around the hole just down from the flag. Hopefully, this will stop riders from trying to fill up the hole with their bikes and bodies... As a treat Gene, John and I slipped over to Whiting for a quick loop. There's still a lot of sand but it sure was fun having this place open again! More photo's of this morning's activities:

Did I miss the e-mail or post for help for this trailwork event? Or, was it another WS members only job? While I'm pretty sure I'm not the only rider in OC that would have postponed our "having fun riding singletrack or sleeping in", I really don't see the need for you to start off your post this way. ![]() Do I appreciate you guy's doing the trailwork? Sure, absolutely. THANKS. ![]() Am I gonna bow down and throw props to the Warrior's Society for doing it "all on their own". Nope. For this club to get the all around recognition that you guy's seem to crave, you need to remember that there are more of us "mear mountain bikers" that are also willing and able to work those same trails that we all ride and love, than WS Members. Power in numbers. Give us a shout out for the next trailwork event that is planned.

You guys rock! Mucho thanks!!!
But Darin's point is spot on. It really causes some animosity when it's a members only type of thing. Chris is known for this kind of stuff and it only alienates us.

I posted this to let others know what the trail looks like and what's been done to it... and would I have rather been out riding someplace else??... yes. Do I wish others had been able to come and join the effort???... yes. BTW: Chinco HIlls is having a trail work project next Sat. That park REALLY needs tender loving care. Understand your frustration, Mike ... but in this case my understanding is that the USFS approved a WS only trail work project. Right or wrongly, this area remains closed to the public. Hopefully, this will change in the near future.

Lots of people wanted to help out, but the FS only will let those registered as official FS volunteers do trail work in the closed areas for now. Trust me, we would love to have an army up there working so that everything could be done in 1 day. Like OMR stated, there is lots of work yet to be done, STT to Old Camp is still a mess.
John aka KeepsWhatHappens posted this before so you have the info and volunteer. http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/vo.../trabuco.shtml
