Ok, I was one of the ones riding the singletracks this morning, and I greatly appreciate everything you guys are doing to fix up STT and the Luge. It's nice to know that people who CARE about the trails are working on them rather than grading everything to oblivion --- not that this happens around here anywhere. . .
So thanks for the work and thanks for the photos! ![]() |

It seems that there is quite a bit of frustration being vented WRT some stupid governmental policies. ![]() And what is wrong with using the chain gangs exactly? Seems that the state is already paying for the labor so why not put it to work? ![]() And one shouldn't be alltogehter to surprised if the WS gets knocked once in a while. Their "invitation only" policy does make them seem a bit elitist at times.

What would they care if they jacked up OUR trails? And I wasn't trying to be real negitive, I was just being me. It rubbed me the wrong way with how the original post was started. If it would have started with.... "The Warriors Society was up early this morning and out on the trail.... no bikes this time... just picks, shovels & fench building supplies.", I would have been first to throw out a big thanks. Believe me, I know how hard you guy's worked, and it is appreciated. That's why I did say thanks in my first post. I've gone out and done trailwork sessions on my own, and do aggree that sometimes less help is better. But, I would never start it off as, "while I'm working my ass off for you guy's, you're out having fun". I know it wasn't worded quite like that, but it pretty much sent the same meaning. At least to this old dog. So, keep up the hard work, and know I'll be there when the time comes.

At least the trail work was happening on a trail the masses actually ride.
Also, where's the test to become an approved FS Volunteer. Will I need to study? Is agile shovel handling required? Who defines "rideable" as trail work is being done? And why, why, why is Chino Hills being worked on? I've ridden it once, and never ever again.

It does seem that if the Forest Service were genuinely interested in returning the Cleveland to users with any haste it wouldn't be limiting the number of people doing the work. It would be nice if land managers would find the effort to oversee a public work day themselves instead of leaving it to a select few. I do see rangers handing out plenty of non-compliance notices at the San Juan trailhead on Saturday mornings, so it's clear that there isn't a manpower shortage.
I can appreciate the work the Warriors are doing, but their priviledged access to the closed public lands the rest of us yearn to ride is, frankly, getting old. |

THE Penultimate Mtb'er

While I love and adore you all, I tend to agree on the wording. We all know that there are several people on here that would have gladly joined in on the trail work instead of riding sweet singletrack, etc. And, we all have a love of the trails, regardless of any group affiliation, that should never be overlooked.
That being said, I think you're just being a bit hard on Greg. They were after all, just words, and we all know that Greg is not of the elitist sect of mtn bikers, just emphasizing his work. As for the trail work, it has sucked, in all parks. Not only did Gene try to schedule trail work at Whiting, but so did SHARE (an open membership mtn biking group that advocates and takes responsibility for organizing trail work in the local parks in the same way as Warrior's in the Nat'l Forest). SHARE has members that have participated in, and led, several trail work events, but the county rejected any and all help. That sucks (can we all agree on that at least)? But, now at least we are able to get a group in to assist with the Luge trail that has mtn biking in mind, experience with trails, and desires to continue having ridable, sustainable trails that we all can enjoy (even you freak DH'ers) I think that, instead of biatching, we should take this opportunity to use our advocates to re-create the trails we love. What was focused on during the trail work? What was changed? What do you guys think trails the last time you saw them and what would you want to keep/change? Screw elitism, people are only elite if you accept them as being such. Now, you can all flame me ![]()
