Mission Accomplished:
![]() Everyone was on time for an early 7am ride this morning. We had a total of five riders show up for what turned out to be a really fun ride. We covered about 18 miles and 1300 feet of climbing. Matt (Just Matt) ![]() Jack (Taco Jack) ![]() Tom (VanDykeTom) ![]() Dakota (Tom's Nephew) - it took a little convincing but I got him to smile. ![]() The weather started out really nice, overcast and cool but heated up in no time at all. Luckily we were done by around 10:15 so the heat was not too unbearable. Resting in the Shade ![]() ![]() Trail shots ![]() ![]() ![]() The one bit of carnage for the day involved Taco Jack and myself. Since this is my report, I'm going to share my version of how my heroics spared Jacks life. We were screaming down a fire road decent where the only posible line was close to the trees on the left. If I hadn't see it with my own eyes I would not believe it ... A tree branch reached out and grabbed Jack's handlebars sending him into some "motorcycle eating" ruts on the right. Since we were going so fast (on fire), Jack was able to stop, drop, and roll or maybe the order was drop, roll and stop. This left Jack sprawled across the trail. Anyway, being right on Jack's rear tire I had no choice but to lay my bike down to avoid running him over. I'm sure had this been filmed, CNN would be airing it constantly and there would be some type of Heroic Medal awarded. ![]() The carnage resulted in a bent chain ring for Jack with some minor scrapes and a pretty sizable boo boo on my forearm. Trail side chainring repairs ![]() ![]() My forearm boo boo ![]() All in all it was a great ride with with some fun STR peeps. There is still a lot of trails to be explored in this area. Look out for future posts for future adventures. Scott ![]()

What!? You couldn't bunny hop over him? (I couldn't either...). Of course he may have then succumbed to a heart attack! Great RR, sounds like a good time (yes, repairable mechanicals and crashes w/o broken bones do not DQ a good time -- frequently even add to it -- especially if it happens to someone else...). |

Blue Rat, I'm still planning to join you and Jack on the Thursday evening IE Bikes ride, even though I've failed to make it two weeks running. Had the bike in my car, but had to work late this week. Maybe next week...
Is that the Pinyon Mtn Squeeze in your avatar? You know, that's a real fun MTB ride thru there (with a vehicle to meet you in Fish Creek, and not this time of year!). |
