Aliso
![]() This weekend I had one of my more memorable rides. It was on Saturday morning in Aliso we started at the main parking lot around 8:45. We planned on starting at 8:00 but we had a new rider. Fred looses track of time once he gets talking to everyone that walks by him. Our riders: Angelo, Fred, Bailey, Commplex (Gary), Elvia (ezzyride), Julia12 (me), Vikki. Trail Angel Sharon started out with us as well as her son Jacob. Our first stop was for Angelo and Gary once they seemed okay we started out. For those of you that may not know Angelo he is Dino Brown’s little brother. Angelo is getting back into riding he said it’s been years since he rode. It didn’t seem that way because he completed a hard ride. My mom gave him the choice to ride back with her and Bailey after climbing Cholla, he choose to ride on. At 13 I learned to be drill sergeant and made him ride the bike as much a possible up Cholla. Of course when he saw my mom riding up, he said Julia “com’on hurry up”. I have never been on a ride where I laughed soooooo much. We continued our ride up to Top of The World and then descended down meadows. As much as Angelo tried to talk me into dropping him “I refused”. STR people do not drop returning or new riders. Besides Angelo was riding really well and I was impressed by him. The fun starts more on our descent down meadows. When we started he was behind me after his first crash this kid (me) decides – I am not safe. Maybe not even behind him. I kept yelling Angelooooooo don’t do that! I kept trying to keep him from putting his foot out on the turns. I was afraid he was going to break his foot. I kept reminding him he could get hurt doing this. We laughed all the way down meadows. Angelo crashed a second time down meadows. I waited anxiously for him to move. Finally I see him roll over and eventually he got up. On my mind was Dino and how he always makes sure I play/ride it safe. What explanation would I give for taking a newbie down meadows? Angelo had talked Gary and Fred to ride ahead of us. This turned out to be a memorable ride and riding it with Angelo gave me a new appreciation for Aliso. Aliso was NOT one of my favorite places to ride “mom and I had been dropped at this place”. It’s different now because Angelo enjoyed his ride and is looking forward to more rides.![]() Special thanks to Fred and Gary they could ride anywhere and they choose to ride with us. Also Bailey riding up the fireroad and making it up two big hills. This also was a memorable ride for Bailey it was her first time up Cholla and Angelo kept his promise of riding with her Blackstar ![]() Last night mom and I rode Blackstar for the 1st time. Another great ride all within day’s of our Aliso ride. Our riders: Bob Loeffler, Patrick, Tam, Fred, Gary (Commplex), Vikki, Elvia (ezzyride), Mark (Mfoga). Blackstar becomes one of my favorite riding places. The plan is to return to ride this place on Saturday morning. Everyone on this ride impressed. When I would look down I could see my mom riding up. Mom being off the bike for a few weeks watching her ride made me happy. I have been worried and wondered if our fun riding days would be back soon. Mom rode up and impressed me. What is even better is that she is looking forward to returning with Vikki on Saturday morning. Finally my mom finds a great riding partner and “Thank You!” Vikki. Thanks to Bob for encouraging my mom and always pushing ezzyride to ride hard and ride at new and challenging places. I owe Bob big for this one for getting her back out there and never giving up on us. Bob has taken me and mom to different places to ride, sometimes places other people didn’t think we could ride. Our dinner last night with our group was a really fun dinner. I look forward to Saturday’s ride it will be a fun one. The plan is to be there by 7:00 a.m. (according to mom). If STR people want to ride with us we will be there and if you need someone that will ride with you and wait and have fun (ride with my mom). Thanks Mom! Julia12 |

Great Ride report Julia!
![]() My Brother had an ABSOLUTE blast on Saturday! Julia was indeed correct, he had been off the bike for some time. I have lost count of how many bikes (i.e. lightweight bikes) I have given him over the years! He never showed much "long term" interest in riding. That all changed a month or so ago when he decided he wanted to join us at the BMX track. He is now hooked. So much so that he is 1) looking to "PURCHASE" his *FIRST* ever bike 2) He is so hooked, he has been to the BMX track alone- he calls it practice... Never thought I would see the day... ![]() While my Brother was the "star" of Saturday (i.e. crashes, wobbly legs, questionable bike handling skills, stopping multiple times in order to climb Cholla etc.), it was Julia who should be commended on a job well done. Reason 1: My Brother was quite grateful for her patience and instruction. Reason 2: I now know that Julia was listening when Lee, Freddie, Ricky, Randy, Hugh, Bob, Coleko, (Myself) as well as a host of other STR members were giving her instruction. My Brother told me of the 20 helpful tips Julia gave to him during the ride! Some sounded quite familiar! ![]() Looks like the student has become the teacher! Julia failed to mention the THIRD memorable ride of the week! To make a long story short, a few of us went to the Bellflower BMX track on Monday. We (as in all of us) signed Julia up to race (without her knowledge). She finished in 2nd place (behind the District Champion). What made the "ride" so memorable (for me) was that she normally rides at 70% and WINS! This time, she rode at 90% and lost! Riding and racing for "The Kid" has always been about fun! On Monday, she learned if she WANTS something bad enough, she will now have to earn it!!! Note: That is more of a life lesson than a biking lesson! Thanks again for the ride report! Looking forward to many more.......... ![]()

Pat - I don't mind when people pass me. It's just that you stay in the back and then fly by past me. It must be the 29er.
Dino - My first 2nd place trophy is more meaningfull than the previous. Next Angelo ride you better be there. Make sure he doesn't buy an IronHorse. It will just slow him down. The bike he borrowed from Fred did have the airbag feature. ![]() OMR - Thanks and yes I did learn some good stuff from Dino and STR members. |
