Default I finally broke an hour up Blackstar

I have been flirting with breaking an hour up Blackstar for about 6 months, but couldn't quite crack it until last night. Gate to gate in 59:30. I did it on my 18.5 lb single speed. I was 2 minutes slower to the first climb than on my geary, but made up for it on the climbs. Here are my splits:

14:30 to 2.5 miles - bottom of first climb
33:45 to 4.5 miles - top of fist climb
42:30 to 6.0 miles - bottom of second climb
59:30 to 7.7 miles - the gate

Anyone else out there time their Blackstar climb?

that's a good time. When I ride the VQ my goal is to make it there in an hour, then I know I'm on pace. I try to make it to the first cattle gate in around 32 minutes. I've been riding it lately on my CX bike, but with the heat I haven't broken an hour.

Good work.

That's been my goal for the last 2 years. Still can't break 1:06. I always seem to get passed by someone at the 7.5 mile mark. Drives me crazy.

I use that ride (except I go up to the gate at Pleasants Peak about 3 more miles) regularly to check my fitness level.

I don't do it on a single speed, but recently I have been staying in my middle chainring the entire ride, so it could be possible with a 22T in the back and a lot of pain.

Under an hour is a good ride no matter what you are riding!

My best is about 18 minutes behind you. Over the next few months I will cut that down.

Congrats on the sub hour!

I haven't timed myself in a long time but will try and remember tonight. My guess is over an hour on the SS.

No kidding ***18 pounds*** I could compete with someone on one of those if I had a nuclear powered electric rear hub. My single feels as if it should have flywheel in it.

Donkey and I have a friend who can get to the golfball from the gate in 46minutes.

I bet Donkey could do the same if he cared.

My fastest timed attempt at gate to gate was 56min.

1:02 is my fastest time to the gate. I'm always tracking around 56-58 minutes and the last 1/2 mile dooms me. One day I will get under 1 hour.

Didn't time it when I lived up there. I do time myself on SJT: Cocktail Rock, Blue Jay. And I use Soledad MTN Road as my test hill on recovery weeks to see how I'm improving at the end of each cycle.

46 minutes would be tough. Was that Darkhelmet?

My best gate to gate is 42.5 minutes. That would only leave me 3.5 minutes to get to the ball! I don't see that happening anytime soon!

OK, here it is. I ordered a Dean Colonal Extra-lite frame back in October. While waiting for it I bought all the parts for the build. As the wait grew longer I bought this cheap frame from Performance for $106 to build up. Last month I decided the wait had been long enough and I didn't need to pay over $2,000 to save 1/2 lb when this one works just fine. I got lucky with the chain length and don't need a tensioner. I started with a 32x18, but that killed my knees so I now am running 32x21 without pain. I will gradually work up to harder gearing. Actual weight 18 lbs 3 ozs.
