Default Beginner trail close to Huntington Beach?

Hey, I am just getting back into mountain biking and live in huntington beach. What would be a good trail that's not too far away to get a feel for it again?

El Moro isn't too bad to start with (Newport Beach area, about 30 min or less depending on beach traffic)

If starting from the ranger's station, go up the middle as far as you'd like.

Or, you can start from Ridge Park Rd (it dead ends into the trail), and take the fire road up either side (the trail straight ahead of the road is probably best and runs alongside the singletrack--aside from the little hill going in/out, it's pretty flat).

If you like, and want some single track, you can cut off of the fire road and do "Fence Line" or one of the other legal trails (check a map first).

Cool. I used to do mostly downhill single tracks in Santa Barbara, but just would like to do some general trail riding to get my fat a$$ back in shape! Once I feel more comfortable on this new bike, then do more technical single track downhill again.

The single track at the back end of El Moro isn't that technical, nice and flowy. If you want more of a work out, you can ride up I Think I Can (and there's always BFI if you want to throw up a bit)

Haha...well, I am way out of shape, so just a decent rolling hilly area would kick my a$$ right now! That should change soon though.

Sweet! I'll get in touch when I know when i am able to ride. I still need to get a couple of things so I can get out on the trails. I have only taken my Turner on a couple shakedown rides so far. I need some different pedals for sure.

there are also a few miles of trails in talbert/canyon parks in costa mesa along the s.a. river. it's a good place to use for easy training rides, and there are actually some stout little hill climbs, small jumps, and fun s/t sections around fairview park. pm me if you want to ride there or laguna coast.

Actually the horsie area in back of Dog Park in HB is a really nice place for newbies. Some single track, some hills some wider stuff.
Then you can head over to the park proper (down to the lake and over near the Frisbee Golf area) and ride aroud ther efor a while. Then back up to the horsie area in back if the Diog Park. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Park at the lot at Edwards and Inlet (right near Talbert) if you must but ride there if you can.

Yeah, I was there for one of my shakedown rides, but was with my girl. I had to babysit her too much! LOL She didn't want to go off the pavement! ROFLMAO!!

Sounds like a plan! ;-) i do plan on going clipless, shouldn't take me long to get used to them again. I need to get some shoes too, when I went shopping, the stores didn't have anything in my size! LOL Damn big feet!
