Default Mammoth July 4th

Well to say the least I wasn't looking forward to the drive up. The GF didn't get off work until 6pm so the majority was to be done in the Dark Yeah! Well to keep it short the drive felt shorter then last year. Maybe it was the great company!! We got to our Hotel just before midnight including a stop for dinner so We made pretty good time.

Awoke on the 4th to give her the first dose or real Mtn Biking. We were both a little concerned about the bike skills she may or may not posses having never ridden more than a bike path.

But she's got dirt bike skills that I don't. It took us a few hours to get her settled and figured we'd better get lunch before we headed out. Had an great sandwich at the Old New York Deli

To say the least she did wonderful. I got the stinky and a 4 hour ticket for her and we did 4 solid hours of ridding DownTown and TrailHome.

That's my bike but the rentals are actually better (DOPE break and the upgraded shock) After A few pictures I sent her back down on the Gondola with the truck keys and told her I'd see her back at the Hotel since there were no "beginner trails" from the top.

I got to run Off the Top to shock Treament to Kamakazee to Richter to the X Zone then DownTown to Paper Route to Lower Bullit Talk about a great way to End the day. We Finished off the day at Perry's Italian for dinner had a good Chicken Parm & zetti w/ meatballs.

Saturday morning came and I was so excited to really let the Stinky out on the Mountain.

This was only my second trip and the first on a bike deserving to be ridden on the RED trails. I was the first bike on the lift at 9 sharp.

I ran the hill 3 or 4 times before running into the Hernandez brothers and Brian (they race the local DH stuff if you don't know them introduce yourself good guys) Well they gave me an intro to the few other trails I hadn't been to yet and I'm very glad to say that there is still stuff for me to overcome in the years ahead. I.E. the stairs on Bullit and the Flow Drop is SO MUCH bigger then it looks on film. Got back to the hotel showered and went to a locals Fav called Angels. Good western burger and awesome deep dish "individual" pies. Ended Saturday with a mini Fireworks show in the village which even small was still a nice treat.

I had A great time and can't wait for my next trip in a few weeks.

As a side touristy note we spent Sunday out and Red's Meadow and the Postpile. that was awesome too.

Oh and If you've made it this far. I just learned to put Pics in my RR.

And for the details trail report.

Closed were the following
Upper Skid Marks (passable with a 30' Drift)

Techno Rock Can't hardly tell when it will be open the big rock drop all cluttered & the stepdown by the container isn't even formed to turn nadda.
Upper Valocity With a couple rather large drifts still.

Okay thanks See you later!!

Thank for the RR and pix....

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it back up this year, but I'm really hoping to.

Good RR. I got to admit I'm a little jealous. I don't think my wife and I are going to be able to make it up there this year.

The Trail Home and Downtown are excellent trails to introduce someone to Mammoth. Good job! When she is comfortable with the Trail Home and you start thinking of taking her to the top, do it. Just take your time, start early to avoid the crowds, bring some snacks and enjoy the views.

Good riding, Thanks.

Looks nice! I have always wanted to ride at Mammoth. I'll have to make it out there next summer.

Thanks for the RR and pics! Beautiful!

I was out the same weekend--the weather was perfect! We hit the trails on Saturday, Off the Top and Beach Cruiser, then Brake Through and Seven Bridges (I'm not a DH'er, but may try more next time).

Beach Cruiser is another great introductory trail (and not as busy as Downtown).

When are you going up again? We'll be up July 31-Aug 8th and plan to get more riding in (as well as the sightseeing).

+1 on the weather it was perfect. Off the top to beach crusier is next but I wanted to see how she handeled the Pulmice corners of trail home first. Maybe next time. She keeps asking me if we can go again in August. Guess I did a good job.

Lucky me I'm going again next weekend the 17th-20th. But it'll be toned down some, taking the XC group from work. Should still be lots of fun. If anyones there look for me followed by a group of XC helemts hahaha

I was there the same weekend. Not as crowded as I expected. I'm pretty sure Trail Home was closed as well.
