Default Claremont Wilderness Park(1st Post!)

S'up yall!
I just found STR a couple weeks ago and have been lurking since so I figure I may as well start to contribute. No pics this time but I'll work on that.

Anyway, I rode the Johnson's Pasture area at the very top of Mountain Ave in Claremont. It is the long way into Marshall Canyon...

Parking was tough due to a 4th of July party but it worked out. Tha trail was a little dry and loose in lots of places but definitely rideable with lots of climbs and some hairy decents if you leave the main roads and hit some of the Single Tracks.

Some single tracks appear to have not been riden in a while and the Mojave Pintstrips on my shins show the evidence of that.

Traffic was light with a few hikers and dog walkers. No other riders. Scenery is great with a panorama view. On the east side you can look down on Marshall canyon, to the south is the valley and to the east is the 909!

No significant happenings on this ride. The most exciting event was manageing to bottom out my suspension off the end of a single track where it rejoined the fire road!

Thanks for the great site!
Ryan

I also rode Marshall Cyn. yesterday and it was real nice except when I crashed hard on a mini jump in the canyon.

I had too much weight forward and I scrapped my face pretty good along with sprains in both wrists and cuts on my 4 major joints. My helmet was dented also but it wasn't cracked. My saddle was also pretty messed up as well.

Good lesson for me...don't go above my riding limit and always wear more protection gear when trying things that are that dangerous. A couple guys helped me out and drove me to my car. That moment really shined my day because they could have just gone past me. This just tells you about the kind of people in our mountain biking community!

I rode Marshall Canyon early on the 4th of July and the one thing that really struck me was how other mountain bikers coming down-hill all yielded to our group as we were riding up......Yeah I know this is what is supposed to happen but when different groups kept yielding I thought man this is the nicest bunch of people I have ever met.

I felt really guilty because I'll admit sometimes I don't do this (I just move to the far right and try to squeeze through) .....but next time I head out to ride I'll remember this experience and will certainly improve my own trail etiquette.

Hey, I noticed that too. I Rode there with Buggus and Peter909 morning of the 4th. It was a blast that morning and the decent was fast and fun. MC is one of those trail that ignites the fire!
