Huh?

Well today I decided to ride Hj to trabuco canyon with three of my buddies. We didnt want to start early so a 9am start sounded like a good idea (boy was i wrong). I had my camelbak filled to 3 liters and a water bottle with some cytomax in it. The climb up holy jim wasn't that bad, just a lot of swtichbacks to navigate through. A little bit of heat but that didnt bother me too much. It was the horse flies taking a bite out of me that sucked. It kept me from taking long breaks and kept me riding. Took about 1.5 hours to get to the top. Much longer than I anticipated and my water was about half gone.
Next was the never ending main divide trail. It was about 11am when we started riding on the main divide and it was already hot. Once we got to the first steep hill I took a couple drinks out of my camelbak and my water was gone. This wasnt good, I had another 5 miles in the heat. I did have some of my ctyomax in my water bottle but that was half gone too. So I had to conserve as much water as I could without succumbing to heat exhaustion or dehydration. I could feel myself getting tired and cramping up. All three of us were feeling it and there was no end in sight. We did run into a couple 4x4ers and they were kind enough to give us some water. Luckily we go to the start of trabuco and it was all downhill from there. Trabuco is a fun trail. All ST DH with some rocks here and there. There were a couple sketchy sections but it was well worth the ride. Once we got to the car my buddy had just flatted his tires, good timing. Then we were off to InnOut for some really good recovery food! Lesson I leared from this ride is to start much earlier and bring more water. My camera was out so unfortunately I dont have any pics. |

To hot for that loop right now. Hope you at least stuck your head under the water at the top of HJ.

Seriously freak'in hot....two others and I rode Holy Jim and Trabuco on the 4th...leaving the trailhead at 8AM....I burned through my camelback (2.0 Liters) once I topped "The Wall".....all three of us were left sharing a final bottle until we hit Trabuco. I felt like the three amigo's touring through the desert. We got back to our car 4.5 hours later to a 103 degree reading from the car thermo. I was HURTING ...limping to Trabuco, fighting off heat stroke with every step.
