Default Chantry Flats, Sierra Madre

Weather was too hot to really ride anywhere (that I know of) until Noel had a great idea to ride Chantry. You do need an Adventure Pass and you do need to get there early since parking is limited and the lot was full by 8AM!. Rode with our fearless leader Hanzo accompanied by bananaseat and 1fg rider.
Hanzo

1fg rider

bananaseat

Noel was right about everything. I'd say 80% of the ride was all in the shade and the scenery was fantastic!!!

You have a great mix of flowing singletracks

Nice technicals as well.
Hanzo rolling it.

Aldo following the leader.

Mike's 29er rolls over the boulders like pebbles

More shade!!!

Nice to have a backyard like this...without MTBers using as a backdrop for pics

Pass by this cave but nobody wanted to go in, oh well.

The End

The San Gabes rock. No simple way around it. Hopefully there will be a ton of rides up there this summer.

where/what did you guys end up riding? Yes I know Upper Winter Creek will be in the answer somewhere

p.s. I secretly want 1fg rider's bike.

Noel and gang....lemme get this straight...you came to a stones throw away from my back yard and you didn't announce yourselves or get permission from me first? Oh, it's on like donkey kong now. There will be hell to pay and you will pay!

Did you do Zion/Sturtevant or just the UWC/LWC loop?

I should have rode with you guys today. Boogie only made it half way up the fire road at Turnbull and was toast, so it was a pretty quick ride.

My first time up there and the scenery didn't disappoint. Water crossings, waterfalls, switchbacks, rocks. Great place to ride since there's so much shade, although I needed a lighter tint on the sunglasses to see in a lot of spots and made the picture taking a bit trickier. Only real drawback was all the hikers out this morning, had to stop on numerous occasions.

Me, Noel, Sam, and Aldo

Nice shady climb up the trail

Noel, Sam and Aldo made it through the rocks easily

Springer Spaniel looks like he'd been enjoying the water

3/4 mile paved climb from the bridge back to the parking lot

Nice quick ride. Done by 10am and ready to head back home.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure David. Hopefully one of the riders will chime in on that.

fun time. still relatively new to that area, only my second ride at chantry; so i jumped at the opportunity to sample unfamiliar dirt. very convenient ride if you don't have a lot of time, which seems to be my deal lately.

as always, another cool ride with some great str peeps. thanks for the pics.

Looks like they just did the lower half and skipped the HAB to Zion. Still a fun ride, but short.

Yup. That's exactly what we did. Noel couldn't do a long ride, so a quick loop was all we had time for.

sometimes instead of zion loop (or whatever..), i'll do 2 laps of Upper Winter Creek to Lower Winter Creek. It's so sweet, that satisfies the 2 hour ride urge...

I thought I saw you guys heading up there, saw you as you were off the freeway. We headed out to JPL area for some heat/climbing practice (for me!). Nice pics!

Mike and Mike hit the nail on the head. I wanted to do Davids Mt Lowe ride but I already missed my sons basketball game last weekend due to D'ville and didnt want to miss it again so we did a quick uwc/lwc and were done. I think the Chantry virgins like it and want to come back for more. Thanks Mike and Sam for snapping pics. Water levels in the streams were the lowest Ive seen in awhile. I might have to go back for the full tour soon.

Hey Noel,

Lemmie know when you're gonna do the full Chantry tour; schedule permitting, I'd love to join you.

I've been telling Jordansrealm about Chantry for a while now so we should give him the grand Chantry tour.
