OC here I come!
|
About 40 people showed up for the SDMBA Cuyamaca Night Ride. I've heard that this ride was fun but the unexciting trails had me a bit skeptical. Quaestonis (James) and I showed up around 6:30 for a 7:00 pm start time. Niterider was allowing people to demo lights for free so I think a lot of people showed up that wouldn't have otherwise. After we set James up with his demo light we were off promptly at 7. We broke up into intermediate and advanced groups to make regrouping more effiecient.
We started out on some nice singletrack then followed that up with some fire road climbing. The scenery was beautiful. The place had recovered pretty nicely from the fires. It was my first time here, but I was told that the place used to look totally different. We regrouped here before heading up on an awesome singletrack climb! The weather was perfect and my legs felt great! I had a blast cruising up towards Soapstone. You can see a couple of riders making the climb! After the sun set the fun really started. It was my first night ride other than LPQ. I've never had so much fun on a fire road decent. The dust and darkness made the downhill challenging and really exciting. You can't really see the trail and all you do is point your tire towards the rider in front of you! SDMBA had about 10 pizzas and cold beer waiting for us. It was the perfect way to end an awesome ride. I think we ended at about 24 miles. Those guys really put on a great event. They checked everyone in by name before we went out and checked everyone in again when we returned. It was a good way to make sure everyone was accounted for. I think they are doing it again in a couple of months and I'll surely do it again!
