Newbies- Here is what not and what to do when u want to go mountain bike riding with me or any other experienced rider.
1) bring your own helmet, baseball caps dont count. it sucks to have to borrow the helmet of the host who brough you. 2) bring a wrench is ur jacked up as bike still uses nuts and not quick release. Its impossible to fix 3-4 flat when you can take off the wheel 3) bring a REAL water bottle and a bottle cage to carry it. 4) Bring a back pack to carry ur shit, the host shouldt carry ur stuff 5) Bring gloves, at least dishwashing gloves! 6) eat breakfast, only a dumbass would bike or run on an empty stomach. I hate having to supply others who are not prepped with food and water 7) get new tires if you tires are bald and the sidewalls are tearing dont drink all your water in the 1st 15 min

9) Find a host who will cut you some slack and teach you the ropes instead of complaining.

Either way, the so-called experienced rider is to blame. That person should have had a clue that newbies don't know much.

Gotcha...my bad...After reading the list, I could only imagine those experiences coming from a first-timer who was given no instruction, not from the guy who should have offered instruction. On this particular ride, it sounds like the experienced rider should have learned more than the newb.

It doesnt matter what you tell some, some people dont follow advice anyways. My buddy has been out with me before and he knows the drill. I have to remind people AND convince them just to have breakfast or bring enough water. I had someone call me this morning to ride (new rider) and I said no. I prep my stuff, eat breakfast, and bring food which is what i tell all people to do and some dont take time to be ready. Its just that some people will not follow advice and will do whatever they do anyways. I have ridin with some new people and they do quite well.
Too funny, seems like people are way too anal today. I been there before (newbie) and did my share of dumb shit in which I got ragged on. I went out riding in the 90s at Big Bear got a flat without a tube and had to stick dirt-in the tires leaves to get back. I also once went riding past 6pm at JPL and got stuck in the dark with no lights getting out of their at 12:00am with a broken collerbone straight to the emergeny room. I took the ragging like a man and knew it was my fault, that I was reponsible for me Whatever the case is, its just bike riding and nothing else. A little humor once in a while is good in this Fuc*ed up world we live in (war, global warming, reccesion fears, unemployment and so on). I ragged on my friend (he knew he screwed up) and we both laughed it off. Peace out and take it easy, life is too short too get your panties in a bunch ![]() 12) Learn not to take everything so serious and have a sense of humor.
