Sounds like you don't like being a "leader". Some of us STR people like to "break in" a newb. Re-live the joy of panting and sweating 2 miles into a 7 mile ride! Getting behind the newbie and taking the most relaxed ride taken in months, all the while the newb thinks you are "pushing to hard".

The best part of being a leader is having the newb stick around, and in several months or so, the newb flies by me like I'm holding still....

I like it!

As for new riders, I just will have to go over things with them pre-ride and if they are not ready (no water, , bald tires, not food in thier stomaches) then I will not do the ride. I have to fit work into my day and can't be making a short ride into a all day thing. Plus, Im starting to get worried about people getting hurt (even though i take em on beginner rides), cramping up or breaking their bikes and them blaming me. I love to ride and want to show others this great sport-hobby, just that there is too much shit that coould happen.

eriuzela, by chance, do you ride dirt bikes? If so, it sounds like we could do some fun riding.
I am not a leader, I just like show others what Mountain Biking is like. I love riding and love to take others that have never gotten out of the city. Being a leader is tuff, that is why there are so few of em compared to those who follow.

Peace

Cheers. I think a lot gets lost in translation in posting sarcasm, and perhaps as a general practice we all should start prefacing threads such as this with a note as to the sarcastic angle. Some people get it, some don't, and unfortunately most are very quick to jump to misled conclusions. STR is a fantastic resource, but does it need to be a place for people to bitch, whine, and moan? I'm not referring to the OP here, but to the immediate tirade of seemingly misdirected negativity. To each his or her own.

Eruizela - good for you for taking newbie's out, and on waiting for 1.5 hours for him. I do think though that if there were to be a more blunt hint of sarcasm in your original post the mudslinging would abate.

I think you should be a sport and give the new rider that fork. He would be on his way to a bad azz bike.

It was free to you so why not?

yeah i know, u loose that part of communication when u text. I understand that you cant make everyone happy and some people are just tightly wound. Anyways, what is to be expected from the Internet, people always flame and find a way to be difficult. Some people are cool and others are not. I do ride by myself recently and hook up with other like minded riders at the trail head.

Smile and be happy
Peace

Tough crowd here. I know many that will not and do not take new riders out. They do not have the patience. We where all Fred's once.

Default wont fit

It wont fit his bike and ill prob through it on my bike (with everyones permission of course).

Although he could always attach a seat on the top and make it into a unicycle, better not dont want to blamed for someone breaking their neck.

STR is a tuff crowd today, maybe this state should legalize Marijuana, some might need the relax therapy!

yeah Steppy, I see what u mean

I think i will not take out new riders, unless they are a good friend. Some people dont always appreciate when some takes time out of their day, gives them food, waits for them when they are later.

I am starting to see that there are cliks on this site. Some people are mellow, fun and cool and some, well...........

I did learn that investing time in others, giving them food and being patient still gets no love. I also learned that people don't have a sense of humor and will just complain anyways.

I see the big old seats and the platform pedals and the kickstands and I smile. I smile because it takkes me back to when I first started and how thrilled I was to ride. Yeah, I seen the guys on the Ellsworths and the Santa Cruz's and what nots. It all made no difference to me. I didn't care. I was out riding and I was having a blast. Hell, I was riding in sweat pants and a hole fill T-shirt. I remember thing "HTF, can thos guys wear those tight freekin pants"? My balls get sweating just looking at those pants.

I see those bikes and again I smile. It's all about getting started. They are out there enjoying the ride. Who really cares what they wear, eat, drink or whatever? If they're going to continue, they'll pay attention and ask questions. Eventually they'll come around to finding what works for them.

dood this post should become funny newbie stories and maybe everyone could lighten up. story could be about a 'dumb' noob move or your part or soemone u took out.

my personal best noob move years ago was going on a northshore style trailset on a rigid ht without a qr seatpost (no tools to drop the seat) an no helmet. It was a f'n mess...was just lucky to make it out alive.

as far as other noobs that I have taken out I had a friend that wanted to mtb. I told him I would take him out but he would have to rent a bike at a local shop as at the time only has one rig. I told him what to ask for for rental but as it turned out his immense cheapness took over and only at the trailset did I get a real look at the pos he rented. the front fork was stuck in lockout (no sus for him) brake would start to engage only after levers where laying on hbars, drivetrain was totally jacked beyond trailside repair (for me at least) etc. poor b@stard was in for a very long ride. would have offered him my bike but was riding cleats and no pedal wrench. anyway we all do stupid stuff even after years of riding so I say feel free to laugh as we all were there
