would the donation of a metal ammo box be an acceptable weather-proof container or is that just asking for it to get stolen?

i don't have an extra one lying around, but they're easy to get.

You know, they make notebooks with waterproof pages. I can ask my geologist friend where he got his (I guess they use them for rainy geologic studies).
