Default Carnage on "Crash n' Carnage" in Riverside

I always wondered how this trail got its name

I found out Tuesday evening when the cooler temperatures brought out a good group of riders for our bi-weekly ride. After riding up Canyon Crest we cut through UC Riverside and then headed towards the Box Springs Mountains, staying on the West face of the mountain.

Unfortunately, we had two ladies go down on Crash and Carnage. Karen (PK) went OTB on a roller and Candace tumbled off the trail on a technical climb on her new Zion 1 X 9.

Fortunately they were both OK and able to ride out..thanks to Randy who was our designated EMT (and the only one with a first aid kit)...Lots of kudos two these two gals for their toughness!

Deciding who goes first on Crash and Carnage

Walter looking down on UC Riverside

Andy approaches the roller

Easy on the front brakes

Turn your wheel, turn your wheel!

Cleaned it!

Rod is next

Too easy, this trail is over-rated

Am I gonna clear it? Ummm...I don't know

I didn't.....but at least I tried it!

Candace decided to walk it....

but later went down on another rock.......

Other than the blood and gore....it was a beautiful night for a ride........

Once again OZ, great pics. I tell ya, you and I should be offical sunset pic takers. If I hadn't been so concerned about Candace, I would have whipped out the camera to take a pic while she was twisted like a pretzel.....but I am glad that I didn't and that she was okay.

What trail is this? I grew up in Moreno Valley and road Box Springs all the time. Is this the trail that runs down from near the top to UCR? I know my buddy went over a cliff on that trail and ruptured his spleen.

Don't even get me started on that with Candace...getting her to ride with full finger gloves would be a step in the right direction.

I started to think what was most likely to touch the ground if I fall. First is the hands since that is human and second is the knees. Neither I want scraping on the ground without something between my skin and ground.

.... out of 30 or so regular riders, I have never seen anyone wear knee pads or shin guards on any of our rides......

maybe its because it gets so hot out here and all the trails require long climbs/approaches.....wearing or carrying pads is just a sweaty hassle on these trails....so most of us have learned to ride these trails without shin-guards/knee pads and our seats all the way up....

As you come down Two Trees make an immediate left on the dirt trail along the houses.......look for the single-track along the base of the mountain up on your left.......eventually you reach an arroyo and the rail-road tracks bisects the trail......the single-track continues on the other side.....just go around by riding along the tracks....

There is a shorter section at the end of Canyon Crest Drive.......we connect both trails by riding on the street...

Man that looks like some fun. I've only ridden that area once by myself. I hear my days off may be changing to Tuesdays/Wednesdays maybe you guys wouldn't mind a stranger amongst the group. It looks like fun.
Those trails look like the 'adjustable' seat posts might come in handy.

Ok I don't think we ever rode that part. Assuming Two Trees is the trail from the top(we didn't know there were names we just rode them) It looks fun though. I really need to get out there with some of you guys some day to see the trails we use to ride 10+ years ago.

A few of us are going to Hurkey Creek for the weekend.

However, not everyone is going to Hurkey and our group is large enough that it would not surprise me if there are at least 5 riders ready to ride on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. in front of the BofA/RiteAid......I know Louie and Dookie will definitely be there and they both know all the local trails.

So either come on out to Hurkey or to Canyon Crest in Riverside, the invite goes out to everyone by the way!
