RR: Tapia Canyon - 4:30am meet

I had one taker on my early morning ride up Tapia... Jeffj.

It was hard getting up at 3:30 to get ready and head out the door. However I managed to drag my sorry butt out the door and met Jeff at 4:30am for the ride.

Going up was MUCH easier with it being cooler. I drank a fraction of the water that I normally consume(well, in the last 3 times I've ridden).

Riding in the dark wasn't as bad as I first thought it would be. Jeff used a normal commuting light and I was behind him with my BB X8 light setup. Between the two of us, there must have been enough light to signal a small plane.

I saw so many little critters on the road, spiders and stink bugs etc.. It was quiet and calm. It was a really nice calm relaxing ride.

Fitness wise I think I'm making progress. It wasn't nearly as hard as the previous rides. I felt really good even though I walked a couple hills.

Heat wise, you could tell as the sun came up that it was going to be very hot outside. We noticed every 50 yards or so the temp increases.

Now to the good stuff.

I have to say thanks to Jeff.

I've ridden with him 3 times so far and he's taught me a lot about riding that I never knew. He's coached me on the single track this last trip shouting pointers and tips. He's a great guy and I think his son's have a great dad.

If you need a riding buddy, Jeff is one cool guy.

I think more rides in the early morning or darktime are in order.. much better than riding in the heat.

Jake, Thanks for the kind words. Once I staggered out of bed after only 1.5 hours of sleep and got moving, it was a great way to start the day and be home before I normally even start the day. I had a good time and trust me, you are getting better and faster both up the hill and down .

Let's get a night ride or two in during the week. Keep up the good work. It just gets better the more you ride.

damn i wish i knew about this i could have met you guys, im just next door in valencia, i was up at 5 cruzing the paseos(don't like to ride up in the hills by myself) oh well maybe next time hope to see you guys at the vintage bike gathering at the fully loop trying to butter up the wife into letting me go.

I'm going to try and make it sunday to the ride. I let the gf know that I'm going and have to work it out with the X and seeing my daughter. I also might bring a friend or two if I can convince them to go along.

I think early morning rides are good with this extreme heat but I took a long nap after I got back. hahaha

Jake, just to be clear so you don't make plans for the wrong day, the Vintage Ride is on Saturday June 28th.
