Hey Sam,
You just have to know where they hide out!

A week ago I bumped into one of those blokes--it turned out to be the same guy who drove out from Riverside last year to meet me on North Ridge. We had spoken on the phone several times since then, but never met face-to-face. Quite a coincidence, huh?

I expect to see him again in two weeks, and if you're serious, I'll suggest that you and he chat.

Contact Chopper on this site. He took SHARE there a few times. Or Grant he also knows the ropes. Last time I was doing trail work there I was wrongfully accused of speeding down Telegraph (no way) and got yelled at after doing 8 hours of work. Sorry, I won't be back.

If they ever agree to letting a work crew in to clear the trails count me in.

Rob, let me know and I will try to be there. I am going out of town on July 3rd for about 10 days, but otherwise I will rearrange my schedule to somehow be there.

I don't really care if we work with the Interpretive Association or not. I think that if we get the rangers' blessing that is all that matters. I will check with Share. I haven't seen anything from them in the park though.

This is a pattern that happens every year. It grows over and the MTBing community gets no supports in brushing the trail from the State...Chino Hills rangers are not MTB friendly. I was hoping for a staff change but it appears that this year no go.

One would think that since this happens every year that the State would just schedule a prison hand crew to spend a day a year clearing the mustard grass. The prison/Cal Fire hand crew has spent a month clearing the old trailer park in El Moro. Lack of funds is an excuse.

Dean, I ride CHSP multiple times weekly. Every ranger I have met has been pretty cool with MTB. The staff has changed a lot in the last year, mostly through attrition.

The trails we want to clear are actually big favorites with equestrians and hikers as well, so it is not just bikers that are missing out on the fun these trails have to offer.

I agree that a prison crew would be a good idea. Chino prison is only a few miles away.

Unhappy I feel your pain.... grasshoppers...

That is why I got in trouble initailly at Aliso Woods. I went a head did the trail work and asked for foregiveness instead of permission ... and got it. I'm not suggesting that you do this, but it does work.

We (SHARE) did do trail work at Chino Hills years ago. We even had TA's that worked with the rangers... but that was a time when the rangers were stationed at the park... long ago and far away.

Here's also what I suggest: contact the Chino Hills State Parks Interpretive Assoc. Tom Green is the president. They seem to be able to get things done.

Web Site:http://www.chinohillsstatepark.org/L...teer_units.htm

Check under Learn More: Ranger's Corner:

Group Services Projects: (714) 572-0182 Tell them you have a group of mountain bikers that want to do trail work. They do this on a day to day basis.

They are also forming an Adopt A Trail program.

When you do arrange something, post it on STR and we'll all get involved.

Thanks for the encouragement Greg. I've been making phone calls and sending tons of emails. We'll see who calls or emails me back. I'm not giving up on this.

Default Sometimes organizing trail work can be daunting

Chino Hills is not currently on the SHARE calendar but the best way to get it to be a priority is to go to the meeting and become a member. The Warriors’ take the summer off trail work so perhaps you can tap that talent pool; personally it’s a bit grueling to work Chino this time of year. The easiest thing to do is pick up some loppers that will fit in your Camel Bak, (SAR boats has a pair you can borrow) and take care of business. I have been known to carry a hatchet, folding saw, loppers, and a surplus pack shovel when I go out just to add some extra degrees to training. But working in teams not only multiplies productivity but is also a lot more fun and effective.

Does anyone know if Bovinian(?sp) to South Ridge is rideable from 4corners safely?? Lots of pretty tall mustard weeds out there so i wasn't sure how the trail looked once you get in a few yards/miles... i don't like committing to danger without knowing it first...LOL

Bovinian is not bad. Last week I rode it twice, once climbing and once descending. There are few parts where you get bushwhacked, but nothing too bad.

Watch your head going under that fallen tree. I smacked my head good on that climbing last week. Even with a helmet on it kinda hurt.

If you are interested in riding North Ridge, McDermont is clear. Parts are steep and loose, but there's nothing better than that 3-4 mile down hill to the parking lot.

I'm riding up Northridge from Carbon Canyon Park, down Sycamore and back out via Telegragh. Going at 4pm if you want to join me. Nice easy pace.
